Chapter 4:

beyond despair

Coffee, sugar and love

It was a fine Saturday afternoon. The smell of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air, as I stood at the counter area, familiarizing myself with the keys to press. I could feel the crisp morning breeze on my face, as the sun warmed my skin. All around me, the sound of busy customers ordering their favorite drinks and meals, the buzzing of the coffee machines, and the gentle clink of dishes and glasses being washed gave the atmosphere an energetic yet cozy vibe.

I couldn't believe that here I was, working at the café, deceiving everyone about being the new employee, when I'm actually not and I'm just pretending to be the boy named erol just to keep the job. I felt a surge of guilt as I imagined erol coming to work on his first day, and realizing that the job has already been taken by me, a total stranger. I was so confused and overwhelmed by the entire situation, yet I couldn't bring myself to confess my deception.

I was just about to serve another customer their cappuccino when I spotted a girl with glasses approach me. She was holding a mug of freshly brewed coffee. she looked familiar, but I couldn't quite place her face.

"Hey, I'm Radiana," he said. "But you can call me radia" she pointed to a name plate on her uniform as she introduced herself. I quickly recalled the girl I had bump into yesterday at the restaurant. There was no doubt about it, it was her. I couldn't believe my luck that it was actually radia who had approached me this time.

She was surprised and couldn't believe that I was also working here. He looked at me with a confused expression and asked, "Errol, is that really you?"

I wasn't sure what to say. I felt a wave of guilt and shame as I realized that I was here under false pretenses. I wasn't Errol, the new employee, I was someone else entirely. Yet I had no choice but to continue pretending to be erol in order to keep my job. radia, however, was unaware of all of this.

"There will only be three of us working the whole day, so feel free to ask for help whenever you need it."

I felt a bit relieved to know that radia and I wouldn't be alone during our shift and that I could count on her support if needed.

As a customer approached the counter, she volunteered to serve the coffee, and quickly took over the task before I even had a chance to react. I couldn't help but feel grateful to have radia’s help, as I got busy attending to some other customers at the counter.

Suddenly, my memory flickered for a moment as I noticed the umbrella I had returned yesterday was on the umbrella stand. It was the umbrella that brought me here, not fate or some other mystical force. Because of that umbrella I got a job now

But I felt a bit guilty, knowing that I had deceived everyone into thinking that I was someone else here to work, but I was so grateful to have an opportunity to work and save up the money for my studies.

After a while, Kenny walked over to me and said, "Errol, I know you're trying your best, but you really need to pay attention to how things are done here

I was absolutely terrible at executing the job, even though I had memorized every instruction in the guidebook that luca had given me yesterday. It seemed like no matter what I did, I just couldn't get the hang of it. I kept messing up the orders, confusing the drinks, and making a mess of the café. I felt so overwhelmed and frustrated with myself, but I couldn't give up since I needed the job badly.

Just as the door opened, radia and I both looked up to see luca, my” in a nutshell, he's an unforgettable boy with a cold and distant demeanor, yet stunningly handsome.trainer”walk in

Luca can be described as an attractive, slight teenage boy with blonde hair and rich peacock-blue eyes. The blonde hair falls gently over his shoulders in soft waves, framing his face and bringing out his vibrant eyes.

As soon as he saw us, he sighed deeply. I immediately felt embarrassed and nervous, worried that I might have done something wrong.

I glanced at his as he walked towards the lounge.

I turned to radia, asking, "Does luca hate me?"

radia smiled and shook his head, "No, he doesn't hate you. But he does expect a lot from you. You need to focus and pay attention to everything that he tells you."

luca looked at radia and asked, "Where did Lesley go?"

radia replied, "Oh, Lesley had an emergency. So, I'll be covering her shift instead."

As soon as luca left, radia turned to me and said, "erol , let's not do anything to get in trouble, okay?"

I nodded asked radia, "Do you really work here?"

She replied, "It may be or maybe not."

I was confused by her response, but before I could ask her to explain, she started mopping the floor. I realized that I still didn't know much about radia, but I was starting to get a sense that she was a quiet and reserved person, who preferred not to share too much information about himself with others.

As luca started teaching me, he apologized for her earlier behavior.

"I'm sorry for being hard on you earlier," he said. "I just don't like having a new trainee because they just come and go."

He glanced at radia, who was mopping the floor, trying to soak up the spilled water. Just then, one of the girls tripped and spilled her drink all over radia's basin of water, completely soaking him and the floor.

luca let out a sigh and shook her head. "Great, that's just great," he muttered.

"Now, take their order." he moved to the side and pointed to the computer for me to take over. I felt a little sorry for radia, who was still mopping the floor, but I greeted the customer with an upbeat smile and took their order.

“The café, the counter area and her they’re all in your hands " luca said, turning back to me.

"You look after radia, my shift is over” luca then walked over to Radia and took the mop from her and he started moping

“Yes sir! “I responded

"Hello, welcome to the café! How are you today?" I asked the customer with a friendly tone. "We have a special promotion on our coffees right now, if you'd like to try one. May I take your order?"

The customer smiled back at me and nodded, ready to place their order.

As he continued to wipe up the floor, I didn’t realize radia was already standing behind me. I handed over her the receipt which she took over the task of brewing coffee

But I noticed that she was now wearing glasses. She looked almost unrecognizable, and I wondered what she was doing with glasses on.

“Radia,” I said, “What’s going on?”

Radio looked up at me, her glasses glinting in the light. Before she could say anything, Luca walked over and cut in. “is there a problem here?”

“Nope, no problem at all,” I said quickly.

As I stood at the counter, I couldn't help but watch the group of girls and their boy companion who were the only customers left at the café. They were chattering and laughing, enjoying each other's company. I couldn't help but wonder what they were talking about and what their connection was.

"Those three girls like that boy “she declared and lean closer towards me

"They keep looking over at him when he's not looking and whispering to each other whenever he's around. They get nervous and flustered when he talks to them and they often find excuses to be near him. They laugh at his jokes no matter how lame they are and they always seem to be waiting for him to show up. It's obvious these three girls are falling head over heels for that boy, but none of them have the courage to make the first move. "she said as she went back from sorting cookies
