Chapter 12:

carols wish

Coffee, sugar and love

I was in my room, sleeping soundly when suddenly my alarm clock went off and startled me.

"Oh no!" I cried out as I suddenly realized I was late for school!

I quickly got out of bed and hurried to the bathroom, when I suddenly realized that it was Saturday afternoon.

I stared at the alarm clock in disbelief. It was already 3:00 in the afternoon! How could I have overslept until the afternoon?

I sighed with relief, realizing that it was the weekend and I wasn't late for school after all.

I sat down on my study table and noticed a frame with a picture of me and Carol on our first day of Saint Palantine Academy.

As I stared at the photo, memories from that day came flooding back to me.

"My life has changed drastically ever since I started working in that cafe," I thought as I stood up and opened my closet, searching for clothes to wear.

I remembered that Carol hadn't called me in the past few days, since that day with the thugs.

I couldn't help but feel a bit worried and concerned. Maybe she was busy or maybe she was upset with me for some reason.

I Suddenly remembered that I had left my ID at the antique shop, and realized that I should go back and retrieve it. I also had to return the payment for the music box that I bought from the shop yesterday.

I opened the closet and found various shirts, pants, sweaters, jackets, and other items of clothing to choose from.

I selected a comfortable outfit that fit the weather and looked appropriate for the occasion. I put on a T-shirt and jeans, paired with a lightweight jacket and sneakers. I liked the casual yet comfortable look, and it made me feel ready to take on whatever the day could throw at me.

I put on my jacket, checked to make sure I had the money for the music box, and headed out the door.

I went back to the antique shop to retrieve my ID and to pay for the music box I had bought the previous day.

I was a bit nervous, as I didn't know if the shopkeeper would remember me, or if he would ask why I hadn't paid for the box immediately. But I needed to return my ID, and I wanted to settle my bills.

As I entered the shop, I could feel the warmth and coziness that it exuded. It was like walking into a warm and welcoming embrace.

I walked over to the counter where I had met the shopkeeper the day before.

"The Saint Palantine kid from yesterday, I see?" The shopkeeper welcomed me with a smile.

"Yes sir, it’s me. I'm here to retrieve my ID and to pay for the music box that I purchased yesterday," I replied.

"But your balance has already been settled," he said with a puzzled look

"But how..." I trailed off as I tried to make sense of the situation. It didn't make sense to me that my balance could have already been settled when I hadn't paid for the music box yet.

I was confused by the shopkeeper's statement.

"What do you mean?" I asked, my eyes widening in shock.

"I remember someone coming to the shop recently and asking about your ID," he shopkeeper explained. "I told that stranger about our transaction and offered to pay your remaining balance."

"Why would you let someone else pay for my balance, sir?" I asked him. "You don't even know who that stranger was? Who knows what kind of person they were?"

“She called herself your friend” he added as he hand over my ID

“And you actually believed her?” was frustrated trying to remain calm, but I didn't understand why the shopkeeper would reveal privatettracsactions like that to a complete stranger. “I can’t let myself own a debt with a stranger!”

It seemed like a violation of privacy and it made me feel uneasy and anxious.

The old shopkeeper gave me a kind smile. "But how could someone as beautiful as her commit a crime?" He said, looking at me with a smile.

I looked at the shopkeeper with a confused expression, not quite sure what he was talking about

"She had deep black charcoal eyes and short straight black hair, like a porcelain doll. Someone as beautiful as her would never commit a crime..." My heart skipped a beat as I realized who the shopkeeper was talking about. He was referring to

"Carol...." I whispered to myself as I rushed out of the door, I realized that she was the one who had bought the music box for me.

He replied, "She left a few minutes ago. You might catch up with her."

My heart raced as I started to run after her. Was that really Carol who had bought the music box? Could she really be the one? The thought made me feel both excited and anxious at the same time.

"Thank you, sir. I'll be back, I promise."

"I'll be waiting for you, my boy." The shopkeeper gave me a warm smile before working back on his wooden craft.

The shopkeeper's kind words had lifted my spirits, and I was eager to see what else I could uncover.

As I walked out of the shop, I took a minute to look around. Where was Carol? And what would happen when I finally found her?

With that, I was off on my way, eager to find Carol

I ran as fast as I could to the park near my school, hoping that I would find Carol there. As I rounded the corner, I spotted her standing in front of a water fountain, staring at it intently. The sun was setting on the water, sending sharp rays of orange light rippling across the surface. It was a beautiful scene, and Carol seemed entranced by it.

I approached her nervously, not sure how she would react to seeing me again. But as I got closer, I saw her smile and all of my concerns were put at ease.

"It's you, Kennedy." Carol greeted me as if she was expecting me to be there. We both stood a few meters away from each other and I could feel the tension in the air. “You found me”

I wanted to say something, but I didn't know where to begin.

"It's so nice to see you again," she added, breaking the silence.

"I have missed our talks and I'm glad that you're doing well. But I do have something to ask you."

“Anything for you carol “I walked towards Carol, who was standing near the fountain

“Will you…resign from job for me?”

The wind blew and leaves gently carried by the wind. "You don't have to work in that café Kennedy," she said, looking at me with a cold expression. "You don't have to pretend to be someone else. You don't have to lie anymore."

I was confused by her sudden change in demeanor and tone. "Why are you telling me this, Carol?" I said, walking towards her with worry in my voice. "I don't understand why you're talking like this."

I asked, still confused by her cold manner and strange words.

But then, she suddenly spoke again. "I'll save you from your school balance if you want me to...you just have to ask Kennedy," she said.

"What are you talking about?"

Carol sighed. "I thought I could make your wish staying at the cafe would make you happy but instead ..." She was struggling to express herself.

"Hey Carol, it’s okay, don’t worry" I said, brushing off the leaves from her hair with my hands and holding

No its not! “She yelled frustrated

I never saw carol like this before

“no that’s not it!”
