Chapter 28:

Fright

Beasted

Zeev embraced tightly in his arms. He forgave her, he could see her side and knew she was a caring person. That was one of the reasons he loved her. They didn't know that at this moment Romulus was watching them from the shadows, but he turned away and went to sleep.

Zeev was sitting on a settee with Patty on his lap sleeping. His eyes shot open wide. That pungent smell! Werewolves! Some he didn't know. Romulus appeared on the door frame of the other room with a grin. "My dear friends!" By this time even Patty woke up and watched both of them.

Romulus lowered his gaze to both of them surprising him by the arrangement. He got a little jealous but collected himself. "Those guys were held captive with me at the facility. They must have escaped and found me!" He was overly happy about their presence, but something was telling Zeev they all were in danger.

Patty smiled at Romulus. At least he could get some normality and a sense of family for himself. They could create a pack together and leave this place to begin a better life. Romulus came closer to the window and looked out for them.

Zeev hurried Patty to the other room. She was left confused but he insisted. Romulus didn't pay attention and didn't even notice it. He was fully focused on the outside when he spotted two silhouets. He hastily opened the door to welcome his friends.

Romulus froze... Those two werewolf shapes resembled his friends, but something was wrong with them. Their eyes were emitting an evil aura, but at the same time were empty. Zeev already changed in his werewolf form, stepped out growling. Romulus was following him with his eyes.

He understood that those weren't his friends anymore and he had to fight them. He also transformed and with a lowered head and a stare came out of the cabin closing the door behind him.

The two werewolves dropped on all fours and attacked them. Both began to start scratching biting and struggling with each other. Patty heard it and ran up to the window to see what was going on outside. Did the crazy lady find them?! She was shocked by seeing those other werewolves.

What Zeev and Romulus didn't know was, that the two were just a decoy. Patty suddenly heard a silent thud on one of the cabin's wooden walls. Dread overflew her body and she became frightened. What should she do now?

She couldn't exit the cabin from the front since there was an active fight going on and easily could turn the attack on her. The banging on the wall became more prominent and she rather opted to crawl out of the window on the side to escape anything that was trying to make its way inside. She could hear roars of pain and see fur flying from the front of the cabin.

Since the cabin was built on a cliffy hill, it was very risky to exit it from any other side than the front but she had no other choice. As she was standing on a narrow stone slab she peeked inside. Two glowing red eyes were staring back at her. She gasped and began to climb away from the window. She didn't want to get in touch with that thing. It was too menacing.

While the fight was continuing, neither Zeev nor Romulus took notice, that Patty was in danger nor did she escape the cabin. That weird werewolf was following her slowly like a cat stalking a mouse. It was bigger than Zeev, but not as Romulus, matted with a crazy gaze in its eyes. Completely different than an ordinary werewolf.

Patty looked back and saw her pursuer. She got scared and climbed even quicker than before. Tonight she unlocked a new level of fright. She couldn't imagine being more afraid than ever before. Patty's heart was beating too fast getting her fast out of breath.

The werewolf was slowly approaching closer with his teeth exposed, snarling at her with a low tone. Saliva was unnaturally oozing out of its mouth. The werewolf looked like he had rabies. She tried to gain a distance between them, but it was still coming closer. Desperate tapping around her to find even something to protect herself while simultaneously holding onto the stone and not falling down the cliff.

At the knee level, she felt a small crevasse. Could she fit in and hide there? Was it deep enough to be safe? She had to take the gamble and climb inside. She pushed her way in, even digging with her bare hands cracking her nails. That much desperation and fright she had.

The growl of that strange werewolf reverberated the whole little cave she was in. Only now she noticed she was shaking out of fear. She pushed herself to the far end of it, but she could tell it might not be deep enough. Patty could despite the night differentiate the dark silhouette with menacing eyes fixated on her against the midnight sky behind it.

It was ready to tear Patty to shreds. The werewolf reached out with his weirdly shaped claws. An odor filled the cave, making Patty strain to vomit. It grabbed on her pants and pulled. Patty kicked it off with the other leg. It became mad and began to dig around the entrance.

She began to scream for help. Since it was the other side and a small cave nobody could hear her so she noticed for a few minutes nobody was coming. She was losing her mind over it. Would she die like this and Zeev with Romulus wouldn't notice it until it would be late?!

The crazed werewolf wasn't giving up and bloodying his own claws which were digging already into the stony part of Paty's hide. Occasionally he was reaching in to be again kicked by her. Patty wasn't sure how long could she stand it. She should never climb in. Regret filled her body. In her mind, she prayed for Zeev to find her as soon as possible.

Her constant pushing against the stone made the wall crumble behind her and she fell downwards into a bigger cavern. Finally, she was further away from the danger. She sighed out of relief looking up... but it was short-lived.

She heard stone crumbling and a dark figure with glowing eyes leaning in from above.
