Chapter 29:

Open Communication

Beasted

Patty gave up on her life. There was no way she could escape and in her mind apologized to Zeev for leaving him too early... As the beast drew his claws closer to her something snatched him out. That monster got thrown away.

Romulus appeared instead of the rabbit werewolf. She was thankful and reached out to him. This situation warmed Romuluse's heart, he grabbed her into his arms and helped her to get out.

In the middle of lifting her up, she lost her consciousness. The fright and anxiety for life drained her of all her energy. Zeev caught up with Romulus. He was stunned. Why was Romulus cradling unconscious Patty in his hairy embrace?

Immediately he growled at him. Zeev didn't know what to make of this situation. How did come to this? Why was Patty out of the cabin in his claws? Romulus wanted to piss off Zeev even more, so he nuzzled his face against Patty's.

As Zeev was about to fly out of the handle and strike him,  Romulus pointed to the crack in the stone and then at the cabin. Zeev stopped mid-air and checked everything out. He sniffed the surroundings and picked out another werewolf scent. So she was in danger? He didn't know!

In the meantime, Romulus returned back to the smashed cabin. The interior which he carefully built was destroyed. He was furious. He lost his home. Zeev silently stepped inside in his human form and looked around. He had no leg to stand on right now. He had to apologize to Romulus and thank him for his help despite his dislike for Romulus.

As Zeev was about to say it out loud and took that deep breath, Romulus cut him off. "Because of all the experiments and stuff they injected me... My senses are much more superior to yours. I could smell him creeping around the cabin but I couldn't act right away. Then I heard her screaming from the cave... And I am sorry, I left you to fight them alone. But... I am sure you would do the same for her. Right?!"

Romulus was settling Patty on the bed which he had to fix back to place. "Did they escape?" Zeev nodded. "Yes, they disappeared. I am worried we have to leave as soon as possible. Our hiding spot was revealed. Tomorrow we should go to the werewolf village and from there we will find some other place..."

Romulus didn't even look at Zeev. His eyes were still fixated on Patty's face. "When the sun comes up, you two will leave." Zeev didn't understand. He was expecting Romulus to go with them. "Where do you plan to go?"

Romulus sighed. "I am pretty sure, that I am not welcome at the werewolf village. You know why... my reputation..." Zeev snapped at him. "Do you doubt my place in that pack? It's my village, those are my people and they will obey me!"

Finally, Romulus turned to Zeev. "Are you that sure about your position?! Why are you threatening it with this foolish decision? I am your ENEMY!" Zeev just ironically chuckled and with his eyes pointed to Patty. "Do you think she will allow it? On the other hand, I need your help, your abilities, and also your strength to protect the people I hold dear to me..." Zeev slowly walked to Patty's bed. "And the one I love..."

He sat down on the cold wooden floor next to her. With a sigh, he leaned on the edge of the bed and looked up at Romulus. "Don't tell me, you suddenly changed your mind and want to distance yourself from her." Romulus avoided Zeeve's eyes by looking out of the broken window. "You are right with that... I don't want to leave but they are after me... I have to!"

Zeev cut him off. "Well, I am the reason they all appeared here in the first place. I acted out and they came to put me down. It's as simple as that. They were searching for me... for a few days and you got into their way. You just became collateral damage by this point. I am sorry for that... You were just trying to live a peaceful life..."

Romulus stopped him right there. "I can't call that a life... it was more like surviving from day to day. I didn't know what the future held for me. I had no plans even after years I spent here in this musty cottage alone. I didn't have anything to seek nor look for until a few days ago..."

With a warm smile, Romulus turned to Patty and gently patted the top of her head despite Zeeve's face, which expressed anger about that daring action. "She belongs to ME! She is my mate..."

Romulus angered whipped his head towards Zeev. "NOT YET! Let her some time to decide, who she will choose. As I came for her rescue she was happy to see me. Her eyes full of happiness and hope assured me, she has also feelings for ME!"

Zeev jumped up. "NONSENSE!"

The sudden heat of the argument awoken Patty. With confusion, she sat up and looked around. What was going on? Why they were shouting at each other again? Zeev knelt down next to her bed, took both of her hands into his, and kissed them. "How do you feel? Are you hurt anywhere? I am sorry I couldn't come sooner."

Romulus made a snide remark. "You weren't the one who came to her rescue anyway." Zeev glared at him. Patty had to stop them. "I know you both were fighting in front of the cabin and had no clue about the third werewolf. Also, I am aware you did your best and couldn't hear me from inside that cave. That was my fault, I got stuck there... I am sorry!"

Patty turned to Romulus who patiently waited for his turn. She looked once more at Zeev and asked him for a little moment alone with Romulus. Slightly annoyed, he obliged and left the room.

Patty pressed her finger against her lips so Romulus would keep silent. She leaned into Romuluse's arms and hugged him tightly, even placing a small peck on his cheek. "Thank you for saving me!" She sat back into the bed looking at an overly happy Romulus whose eyes were sparkling with pure joy.
