The hero: a figure admired by all, the kind of person anyone dreams of being. Saving people, having reliable companions, facing formidable opponents... who wouldn't like that? Nevertheless...
I'm really tired...
When i decided to join the adventurers' guild i was enthusiastic and the idea of being able to experience exciting adventures made my heart beat faster. I didn't think i would become the number one hero but, after great efforts, i did it and at that moment i thought i had achieved my dream.
"Mom, look! That's the hero who defeated the monster the other day!"
"How annoying! Who does he think he is?! He gets all the best jobs."
Phrases like these are now part of my routine, for ordinary people i have become the one who defeats the monsters of the moment, the adventurers look at me with hatred. Even my companions have begun to treat me as a simple weapon, they don't even ask me if i'm okay, we never speak, everyone simply has their own role and mine is to face the strongest enemy. However...
This story will end today! The meeting with the demon queen will put an end to all this and my mission will be complete, i will obtain the freedom i desire!

"My lady, the preparations are complete. Our army is already in position for the hero's arrival and here inside the castle we are to protect her."
I sighed.
"Okay, you can go now."
Being the queen of demons is not at all easy, especially when you are the daughter of a warmonger and inherit everything against your will.
I wish i could change my life...
"Remember that humans are our main enemy, when you take my place you will have to exterminate them!"
I grew up hearing these words from my father, but i hate wars and have nothing against humans, why do i have to carry this burden on my shoulders? But maybe...
The hero is coming, our meeting will close this matter once and for all and then i can choose my destiny!

Here we are, we have wiped out the army of demons defending the castle and now we are one step away from the queen!
"Stop! Where do you think you're going?! You'll have to go over our bodies first!"
Damn! Looks like we'll have to get rid of the queen's bodyguards first.
I looked at my companions and they motioned for me to enter the castle, i almost forgot... everything is as always, i am the ultimate weapon, the one who has the task of facing the boss on duty. I sighed, responded to their nod, and looked at them again, perhaps for the last time, before i stormed into the castle and left the war between humans and demons behind me.
I walked down a long corridor before finding myself in front of the door that seemed to lead to the main room, the one where i would find the demon queen. I threw open the door, walked forward with my head down and brandishing my sword until i saw the shadow of a woman approaching.
"There she is, it's definitely her."
I raised my head and saw her a few meters away from me, it almost seemed like she was waiting for me. A rather pleasant looking girl: tall, pink hair down to her back and a long red dress, she looked like a human woman if it weren't for her horns growing out of her head.
We both looked into each other's eyes without speaking, in his gaze security and pride, in mine tension and anxiety. I closed my eyes for a moment and when i opened them again, more decisively than before, i pointed my sword at her. In the air you could feel the tension for the imminent battle, everything seemed ready for a life-or-death confrontation, but...
"SAVE ME!"
"KILL ME!"
We both shouted words that were extremely different in meaning but, at the same time, similar in terms of our current state of mind.
"S-Sorry but i think i didn't understand correctly, am i wrong or did you ask me to save you?"
"What about you? Did i misunderstand or did you tell me to kill you?"
Endless seconds of silence followed, peppered with our increasingly perplexed looks.
"You are the queen of demons, why should i save you? The queen of demons who is supposed to sow death and destruction, is this the queen of demons we are talking about?"
"And what about you? You are the hero who should save everyone regardless of their race, you are the hero who represents life! Why did you ask me to kill you?"
The discussion continued for several minutes, both of us raising our voices until we shouted and said everything to each other while the battle raged outside the castle. By now we were totally out of control, ending up talking at the same time and not even listening to each other's response.
“You are the queen of demons, your job is to kill, and you represent my hope of death!”
“You are the hero, what you should do is save anyone who asks you and i see my life hope in you!”
"THAT'S JUST WHAT I DON'T WANT TO BE!"
We both, in unison, shouted those words and it was in that moment that i realized.
She's like me.
We were silent for a few seconds, both looking into each other's eyes in shock. Then, after a few moments, i lowered my head in hopes of hiding the tears that began to fall.
She walked towards me with a firm step and placed my head on her chest, hugging me warmly. I don't know why but, despite the terrible sounds of war outside, i had never felt so much peace as i did in that moment.
We both began to tell each other about our past and the reasons for that discomfort, i discovered that she had never faced any battle, literally leaving me stunned before she could make a proposal:
“How about you run away with me?”
"What? Run away with you? I understand that you feel strong but there are two armies out there ready to take our heads, i don't want to spend my life running away, dying is the only solution to leaving our problems behind."
"There's no question about it, why should we give up our life? There are a lot of things i would like to do... travel, pursue my hobbies, fall in love and maybe start a family."
Those words left me more and more amazed, i really didn't think that the queen of demons could think in that very... human way. Then, she continued with a new, even more surprising proposal:
"Then let's fight, the winner among us will have the right to choose what to do with our destiny."
"Absolutely not! Fighting would mean pleasing everyone out there, regardless of the outcome they are all here to see the battle between the hero and the demon queen... i really don't want to accept this fate! And then, well.. i must say that i like this purity of yours, in short... the fact that you have never fought."
She smiled at me, i can say with certainty that i have never seen a more beautiful and sincere smile than that. She approached me and put forward her last proposal, the one that found me in agreement with her:
"Then let's let them choose whether to approve our decision or not, i think it's the best thing to do."
I nodded my head and replied.
"Whatever decision they make we will accept it peacefully, life or death we will remain together until the end."
After making this decision by mutual agreement, we walked hand in hand towards our destiny.

Damn, look at the time! I risk arriving late for my first day of high school! I got ready and left the house to go to school.
When i arrived in front of the building, full of old and new students ready to start the school year, i was attacked by a girl who hugged me from behind and started being ironic.
"You were about to be late for your first day of high school! I see that nothing has changed compared to years past..."
I sighed.
"By the way, how many times have i told you not to hug me around people, queen of demons?"
She stuck her tongue out at me.
"And how many times have i told you not to call me queen of demons in public? In fact, forget it, don't call me that anymore even when we're alone! Understand, my dear hero?"
“Did you mean former hero?”
We both smiled and, hand in hand, ran towards our new destiny.
