Chapter 20:

twist and turn

Coffee, sugar and love

"Radia!" I called out, grabbing the back seat of her bike. Radia glanced at me and let out a sigh. "This is ridiculous," she said, as she began to get on her bike and leave.

"This is ridiculous," she said, shaking her head. But then, I felt someone grab my arm and pull me forcefully away from her. It was Daina, looking furious.

“pointless" Radia said

"Why are you acting like this, radia?" Daida replied angrily. "Don't you dare make fun of my feelings?"

"Hurry up and decide whether to stay or leave, kenedy" Radia said, her voice sounding impatient. she took a folded fan out of her pocket and pointed it at Daina.

"and You don't have to pity him, Daida," she added, pulling me away when

"Why? Does it have to be like this?" Daina yelled, frustrated. "Kennedy... let's go back..." Daina said. "I'm the one who's pushing you away, right?" She continued. "You don't have to worry about anything about me... or the lost money."

She pulled me away from Daina, but Daina quickly grabbed hold of me again.

I fell to my knees, and the rain became heavier. I did not care about getting wet from the rain anymore. "I've worked hard, really hard," I said, "to study at this prestigious academy, to be a scholar to listen to classical music to study science, and mathematics, but so what?"

"I wasn't trying my best," I continued, my voice shaking with emotion. "I was only pretending to push my body through its limits so all those excuses would be possible!"

As tears mixed with the rain on my face, I felt overwhelmed by a deep sense of regret.

"I wished to stay in the cafe because always I thought I loved Lesley," I said, my voice faltering.

“I was so desperate that I even resorted to sending bullies to hurt a friend just to keep my job..." My voice trailed off as I realized how pathetic I had been. "I worked so hard...no, that's not true," I whispered. "I barely even talked to Lesley,..i barely even working hard at the cafe"

“..I've put all this hard work..." I paused, overwhelmed with emotions. "But who am I working towards?"

"I put in misguided effort and convinced myself it would pay off," I said, "but it doesn't matter. I even resorted to this thing..."

"I'm so selfish,"

"It serves me right?….all of it" I whispered, my tone changing as the tears poured down my face. Radia and Daida just stood there, staring at me as I cried.

"That's why," I said softly, "whether to stay or to leave this paper town, I can't choose...I can't do something like that. I...I don't even have the right to choose!"

Daida dropped the music box, “I understand. That's enough."

I couldn't do anything but look down as I heard sirens in the distance. My mind was racing with thoughts of what would happen if someone found us here.

suddenly, a police officer appeared in front of us. "we got a search request from your parents," the officer said, speaking into his radio. "They've been looking for you."

The police officer took the radio and spoke into it. "We found him. He's safe."

"Would you three get into the car?" He asked, but Radia immediately rushed toward her bicycle, attempting to escape.

"Stop!" The officer said sharply and quickly chased after Radia and grabbed her by the arms, just as she was about to get away.

"Let go of me!" she yelled, struggling desperately to break free. But the officer was too strong, and he managed to quickly subdue her.

"Let go of me!!!!" She yelled.

I awoke to the sound of the leaves blowing outside my window. As I lay in bed, I could feel the sun warmed my face through the curtains and the gentle, calming breeze on my skin.

I sat up slowly in bed, feeling confused and unsure of my surroundings. But as my eyes slowly adjusted, I began to recognize the room around me.

Suddenly, the memories of yesterday came flooding back to me. I remembered the argument....the bullying...the desperation to escape....the panic and fear I felt when I realized I couldn't get away fast enough. It felt like a terrible dream, one of those nightmares you wake up from in a cold sweat..

How did I get here? What am I going to do now? I wondered....

As I sat up in bed, I noticed Carol sitting on the carpeted floor, leaning her back against my bed. "You're finally awake, Kennedy," she said, as she jumped off the bed and lay beside me.”I was so worried about you!”

"You've been sleeping for days, you know," she said, her voice sounding a bit concerned.

"I'm sorry, Carol," I said softly, feeling a bit embarrassed by my situation. But as I looked at her, I felt a sense of relief.

"Don't be," she comforted me, "it's good to see you're up and about."

"Carol turned serious and said, "Radia has already admitted that she was the one who stole the money."

"She already handed over the money," she continued, her voice sounding relieved. "And it turns out that it was only being hidden in the cafe."

"She only stole the money with a purpose," carolsaid, her voice sounding serious. "She set you up and framed you as the one who stole it, to revenge daida ."

"Luca has withdrawn the case against you," she continued, "and decided not to file a complaint against her. And he even apologized for the misunderstanding."

"You don't have to worry anymore."

"According to Radia, she did not expect Luca to actually call the police," Daina explained.

"That's why she went out of her way to save you and the reason why she wanted to escape away with you in the first place was because she's actually the one who stole the money. She doesn't want to admit it, but she also doesn't want you to be in jail."

As I listened to rarol explain Radia's reasoning, I began to understand her point of view. She had a good heart and I could see that now.

But suddenly, a realization hit me. Wait a minute...it wasn't Daina I went out with that night. It was Radia all along!

"She doesn't want to admit it," I thought to myself, "but she doesn't want me to be in jail either?"With a smile, I turned to face carol

"Thank you carol. Now I understand what Radia meant when she said she wanted to protect me."

But then, suddenly, a realization hit me. Wait a minute...it wasn't Daida I went out with that night. It was Radia all along!

I noticed that Carol was wearing a uniform. "What day is today?" I asked her, curious.

"Actually, we're late for the music competition," she replied, seeming a bit frustrated. "Oh, what a waste of tickets."

With a sigh, I sat down on the bed and Carol walked over to my closet, pulling out my uniform. "Doesn't matter, dress up," she said as she headed towards the door.

"Your mom let me cook your breakfast," she said, shutting the door behind her.

I hurriedly followed Carol to the kitchen, where I grabbed a toasted bread and rushed towards the door with her.

"Let's go," I said, eager to get going.

As we drove towards the school, I realized the auditorium was empty. The event was already over, and we had missed it!

"Oh, we're too late," I thought aloud. But Carol just smiled and pulled me towards the stage, where she chose a seat with the best view.

"I guess we can still enjoy the show," she said, her tone sounding optimistic and laid-back.

"Sit here," she said, as she pointed to a seat with the best view of the stage.

I walked into the auditorium, feeling a bit confused. As I looked around, I saw Daida standing in front of the stage with Radia playing the piano, Luca playing the violin and Lesley playing the cello.

At once, the music filled the auditorium and as I watched Daida hit the first note, an explosion of memories filled my mind. I suddenly remembered the first time I had seen her playing the flute at the café...the beauty and elegance of her performance...the way she effortlessly drew me into the music...And now,
