Chapter 2:
In-Game
The village was filled with mostly grass like the fields around it, but strips of treaded soil lined the between of structures where villagers seemed to walk most.
It seemed we were further to the outskirts of town. To the right a well with the ground worn all around it with grass only growing a few centimeters away from the actual structure. To the left the fence made out of skinny half logs strewn together all the way around the village.
Obviously I'm supposed to head to the well where other NPC's are located, However, I know there's only one way to play true open world games.
It was time to limit test.
I dashed towards the fence with a motivation truer to any other man of men, to go beyond the path traveled, to the one un-traveled, after all, I was finally HERE! somewhere other then.... well, THERE!
"HURAAAAAH" I got ready to jump the fence like jumping a vault.
The beginning of my journey~
I closed my eyes once I confirmed I should make it over.
"HMMPH- FuH!" I must've misjudged because I got sent flying backwards the force of my own jump, falling flat on my back after the intense force on my forward facing leg before the slightly lesser force on my face.
I decided to stay there as the slight wave of adrenaline after a stupid fall wares off as a piece of text popped up.
[Open-world locked until orientation.]
"Are you serous...?" I mumbled aloud.
And so there I laid until I got bored of feeling childishly dejected and began thinking about what I could do here.
I will be childishly rebellious.
What that meant to me was laying here, so far unbothered by anyone or any immediate obligations, in this realistic warm sun, on this almost unrealistically soft grass and cracking open the lore and side-content instead of following the main-line stuff, like MMOs.. or.. life.
I pull out the first book my hand finds and read the title Statistics.
I call it a book but it's almost like a hardcover pamphlet, there really isn't much here.
I crack'er open and begin reading.
The game world and it's inhabitants are decided by a strict numerical value system. The Creatures, Player & non-player characters all operate by "personal Stats" or "stats" for short as world statistics are not available to you without reaching pre-requisites.
The statistics measures in personal entities are listed as follows and defines their parameters (Though not necessarily what they'll do with them.)
Physical type
-Strength
-Dexterity
-Vitality
Resource type
-Health
-Stamina
-Mana
Magic/Mind
-Intelligence
-Creativity
-Focus
You can raise your stats using the following methods.
Talent Points(TP)-Earned by being proficient or working hard in something before or after entering the game. Provides 10 points per level to the stat earned on. First 1-5 are easily given or earned. 5-10 is more easily earned. beyond 20 is extremely difficult.
Dedication Points(DP)- You get 1 every level you gain to distribute how you please, 10 DP in the same stat will add +1 to that stat for every player level you have.
Basic additions: You get +1 to every stat every level
"Cool, so I can probably make a viable build one way or another as long as these stats aren't useless." wondering about that exact inquiry I kept reading, also hoping to find out how to check my own stats.
Strength-Determines potential force generated by a players individual actions. Influences damage added by swinging & thrusting motions. Determines block potential and the no equipment base armor.
Contributes to Health stat.
Just when I was about to keep reading I noticed a shadow blocking out my reading light, I turn around to complain impulsively
"Watcha~ readiin?" a cute burnette with cute fluffy curls that barley went down past her ears but if was straight would probably go past her shoulders, but she looked a little trouble despite the seeming pep in her voice.
"O-oh... Uhm, the guide for statistics, I guess..." I was a little flustered, I was taken aback meeting another person my age... even if it was a video-game, especially one this... disarming.
"That's cool, so hey listen." She quickly started trading pep for speed and urgency. "Could you help me real quick? You'll get how real soon."
"..."
"..."
She just smiled.
"Waddya mean?" I asked in a curious, slight monotone.
"Please?" She really upped the pleading in her voice and the charm of her smile.
"Well, sure I guess." I still didn't know what she wanted help with but with a smile like that I was in for the ride I suppose.
Then a shadow overtook her beautiful visage and darkened her figure like a famine to a village.
A silouette of an orc... Wait no, a person stood behind her. with long black hair and a full beared, flowing as it was shining, covered most of his double chin & greasy facial features.
where his belly where should taper off to his hips his shirt hangs downwards almost like a skirt, but only around the front as if it was some kind of robe, obviously a futile attempt to conceal his stomach as much as he could.
"Is this guy bothering you Malina-Chan?" He said between gasps of air.
I swear I could see the cutie shiver.
I would be fighting off the urge to laugh my ass off if it wasn't for the fact this guy has gotta be like 6 foot 3 inches and perfect for those shows where fat people lose alota weight and could probably one-shot me with a groundpound, But still, What the fuck is 'Chan' supposed to be?
as I refocused on the moment this dude who had to be in his 20's atleast was glaring at me, as was this "Malina", seemingly for very different reasons.
I was thinking through how I could approach this situation, while running did seem like a choice I didn't know if more bullshit walls were waiting for me on my chosen escape routes so I decided it'd be smarter to try and convince him not to throw a fit.
"Yeah... Sorry about that, but hey how about we party up y'know? Strength in num- GAH" before I knew it I was sent tumbling a couple feet to the side.
"YOU DARE TRY TO MAKE A MOVE ON HER?"
as I came to terms with my new position of being on the ground again, this time in the dirt of a village path I looked to who put me here. I saw it was him immediately because I could see his long thick harm curved around Malina as if he just swung around her. And apparently he sent me flying this far with just his palm, almost like a slap. He didn't seem to be in a rush to remove it either as he used the chance to lean in on the girl.
"See, See? I can protect you from anything! Be mi- I mean, join me!"
I don't think he could even tell she was about ready to puke.
Now, I don't usually make it a habit of meddling even when I see something bad before my eyes... But when i'm asked to help directly I can't really call myself an innocent bystander anymore, But more importantly "Your complete ignorance and undeserved self-confidence really pisses me right off!" and in the center of my vision I see text.
[Duel request issued]
Dammit...
