Chapter 52:

#052 A Fishy Deal

Lucky Draw [100 word stories]

Although we did not own Lucky, the cat had been with us for as long as I could remember. A creature of dubious age, their ratty sand-coloured coat and sharp-pointed ears had remained unchanged over the years.

For the price of daily fish Lucky granted us good fortune. My grandma used to joke that feeding fish to Lucky was like making an offering to a temperamental god. No one could have predicted how right she was.

One day, my grandma fell ill and forgot to feed them. The following day, Lucky disappeared and our home mysteriously burned to the ground.
