Chapter 9:

VIII. The Chance

Attack On Titan - Ackerman's Legacy

A day passed by the garrison soldiers arrived at Roku's house and apprehended him because of the murder of some members of the underdog.

Levi attempted to protect Roku, but Roku cautioned him against it, knowing that causing trouble with the garrison would lead to severe consequences. Despite Levi's efforts, Roku was taken away by the soldiers, leaving Levi helpless.

Roku was detained in prison pending a decision by the higher authorities. A week passed, and news of Roku's situation reached Kenny, prompting him to take action.

Despite his dislike for Roku, Kenny recognized the value of Roku's strength and hastened to rescue him, understanding that losing such a strong individual could be a considerable loss, especially because he was an Ackerman too.

Kenny stepped into the chamber of the high-ranking officials, his expression calm yet resolute. He knew what was at stake, the delicate balance between justice and the potential Roku possessed.

The atmosphere was tense as eyes turned to Kenny, expecting an explanation. The judges' decision was obvious and it was the execution of Roku, but Kenny stepped in.

"Gentlemen," Kenny began, "I implore you to reconsider the case of Roku Ackerman.", "Kenny, you're asking us to pardon a murderer," one of the officials said, the severity in his tone evident.

"His actions were a response to a grave threat. Those men were part of the Underdogs, notorious criminals preying on innocent citizens," Kenny stated firmly.

Another official interjected, "But the public outcry demands justice!"

"I understand that," Kenny replied. "However, Roku Ackerman is no ordinary individual. His lineage runs deep with strength and resilience. He acted to protect not just himself but also others. His abilities could be of value to the army."

A wave of skepticism swept through the room. Kenny knew he had to play his cards wisely, emphasizing Roku's potential contribution to the military.

"Consider this. The Survey Corps is in dire need of individuals like him. His skills could prove pivotal, a chance to atone for his actions by serving a greater purpose."

Amidst deliberation, some officials seemed intrigued by Kenny's proposition. They debated the possibility of utilizing Roku's abilities for the military's benefit. Finally, after much discourse, a decision was reached — Roku Ackerman wouldn't face the gallows. Instead, he would be enlisted in the Training Corps, and placed under strict observation.

With the verdict secured, Kenny hurried to the garrison's holding cells.

Roku, his face a mixture of resignation and defiance, sat in the confines of the cell, his eyes locking with Kenny's as the door opened.

"Kenny, what are you doing here?" Roku asked, his voice hollow with a tinge of curiosity.

"Freeing your neck brat, you owe me one now", "I've spoken with them. You're not walking the path to the noose. You're bound for the Training Corps." Roku's gaze sharpened with disbelief. "The Training Corps?"

"Aye, in a week's time," Kenny affirmed. "They see something in you, boy. Potential. You'll be watched closely, but it's a chance to showcase what an Ackerman can truly do."

Roku's expression softened, contemplative. "And if I refuse?",

"You won't," Kenny replied with conviction. "You're an Ackerman. Duty and loyalty are in your blood. This is an opportunity to prove your mettle." Roku's gaze met Kenny's, a silent understanding passing between them. He nodded, a hint of determination glinting in his eyes.
