Chapter 17:

#BLUR II

REIN: Nightmare Trials

2The azure hues of the lights above bathed the so called library in warmth as I sat alongside Mr. Cat, engaged in an unusual discussion about names. Mr. Cat, persistent in its avian suggestions, had proposed "Phoenix... How about phoenix? It’s a good name if say so myself. " Sparking a detested expression on my face."Why phoenix? Why are you give out bird names?" I questioned, my frustration evident. "I'm not a bird, you know."The cat, undeterred by my discontent, defended its avian inclination. "Birds embody grace and freedom. They're captivating creatures. Or don't you like birds?""If I would choose between I like or hate birds I'll be in the middle, but I'm not a bird," I reiterated, my annoyance growing. The cat, seemingly unsated, continued, "Ehh... What's wrong with birds? They're cute, endearing.""Naming a boy after a bird feels odd and disappointing," I sighed, hoping to shift the cat's preference.Undeterred, the cat mused, "I see, so bird’s names are a no go, If only we had a clue about your past we could make up something."—I wish he had given up on the bird names an hour ago. I inwardly groaned, my detested expression deepening."You, do you have a dream?" "Dream?" "Yes, dream if we can't name you after a bird wouldn't it be much better to name you after your dream." Having our conversation took an unexpected turn towards dreams, seemed strange in itself. But Mr. Cat's inquiry about my dreams led me to recount a peculiar one—lying on cold ice, surrounded by an unforgiving chill.I took a moment to gather my thoughts. "I don't know if you could consider this a dream, but I've always been wondering about a moment I felt like I was dreaming"."Hmm... That's unusual, what the dream about". "I've had this dream," I confessed. "I'm lying on cold ice, my body numb, and I'm staring at the blurry cold air around me. It's such an unsettling feeling, like I'm trapped in that frozen moment. I've tried to make sense of it, but it's always been a mystery to me."The cat's eyes betrayed a hint of disturbance as it leaned in closer, intrigued. "Well, the dream could be a fragment of your past memories or rather it could just be your innermost thoughts and desires. They often reveal what lies beyond the surface of our memories. Tell me, what emotions does this dream evoke? What do you think the dream feels like to you?"I pondered, grappling with the intricate emotions tied to the dream. "Isolation and disconnection, a mix of fear and confusion. Like searching for something just out of reach."The cat nodded thoughtfully. "Perhaps it’s just what you’re feeling at the moment. Major life transitions can evoke such feelings. Your dream might mean something, though I don’t fully understand what you dream means it would be safe to say it’s just a memory. The answers may come in time. Until then, why not find them yourself? As they say the answers on come to those who seek it out". I contemplated the cat's words. Feeling a glimmer of hope that I could navigate the complexities of my past.Perhaps there as a reason, more to why my memories were lost. —The cat's whiskers twitched, and a mischievous smile played on its lips. "How about 'Blur'?"I blinked in surprise, the word resonating well with the dream I had shared. "Blur? Why Blur?"The cat's eyes twinkled as it explained, "Your dream about the cold ice, the numbness, and the blurry air—it all seems to tie in with this name. Besides, names are just labels, and sometimes, it's the essence of a dream that truly defines who we are. What do you think? Isn't that some wise words if I do say so myself," Mr. Cat said self-appraisingly.A smile tugged at the corners of my lips. "Blur... It's different, but it feels right. It's much better than being named after a bird."And so, within the confines of the library, a sense of unity filtered, as I embraced my new identity as Blur.
