Broken Promises

Romulus broke off their fight by pushing Zeev from him to run to save Patty. Her limb body was tumbling down in the snow uncontrollably leaving a line of blood behind. Romulus was closing in on Patty from the side but was cut off by a snow avalanche, which was caused by Natalia.

Soon after, she fled the premises. Romulus tried his hardest to reach Patty sooner than the heavy piles of snow. He was already swimming in the river of frozen snowslide trying again and again to reach her with his front paws.

Zeev was running along keeping an eye on Patty to not lose her under. She began to slowly disappear out of his sight and in all hecting Zeev joined Romulus in the avalanche pulling him down. The snow river was finally slowing down. Zeev dug himself out.

Patty together with Romulus were nowhere to be seen. Zeev was expecting the worst. He was walking on the stupid and what more pink snow since it got mixed with Romuluse's blood. It got harder to find them. He feared it would be too late. His feet repeatedly got stuck in it.
Frustrated, angry, and anxious sniffing in weird patterns.

Suddenly he saw something down further. Snow was flying around and he heard a hysterical loud cry. He darted right there to be met with a horrible sight. Romulus was cradling Patty in his arms rocking back and forth, stroking over and kissing her blue fingers and crying.

She was already stained by Romuluse's blood from the injuries he sustained in the fight with Zeev. Through the tears streaming, he looked up at Zeev. "I CAN'T HEAR HER HEART... SHE DOESN'T BREATHE!" Pressing her against his body into his tight warm embrace.

Outraged Zeev ripped the limb body out of his clutches putting his ear against her chest. He was holding her by the waist and her lifeless body dangling. Zeev didn't hesitate and placed her on the ground to give her first aid.

Romulus saw something like this for the first time. Nobody ever showed him that he could save someone like that. He was watching Zeev with a concealed breath to catch the slightest sound. THERE! Patty's heart restarted and she began to breathe again, but very weakly.

Romulus was gripping his chest leaving bloody stripes behind. His heart almost stopped. He was grateful for having Zeev near him, that he didn't go through what he planned... to kill him. He wanted to take revenge on Natalia for kidnapping Patty by killing the man she desired... Zeev.

Patty moved and Zeev took her into his arms running down the mountain and Romulus followed them. Zeev managed to bring Patty to a human hospital. There was a lot to explain but she was saved.

The next day Romulus together with Zeev went to visit her. As they entered the room Patty was already sitting up in bed turned with her back to them, looking out of the window. When she turned, she revealed bruises, cuts, and swellings on her face. Of course, she had some more hidden under the hospital garment.

As she faced them completely, she smiled at Zeev and hugged him tightly but didn't even glance at Romulus. He inched closer and slowly reached out with his hand to touch hers but she quickly retreated.

He was heartbroken over it. "Why don't you acknowledge my presence here? Why are you so angry? You promised you would never avert from me!" She still kept looking away. "You promised, you would never do anything that would cause me danger. And here I am because of your broken promises." She turned to him with and furious glare. One, Romulus never saw on her face.

"There were moments, while I was in Natalia's claws, I could regain my consciousness. I heard about the deal with Natalia... also how you attacked Zeev. But I was powerless at that time..." Romulus repeatedly reached out. "You can't be serious?!" Patty sighed heavily. "Please, don't touch me, and from now on... don't come near me."

Romulus crumbled down to the floor. This couldn't be true. How did this happen? Why did he agree to that stupid deal with Natalia? For this? To lose everything in the end he hoped for?! Romulus opened the door on the balcony, transformed into a werewolf, jumped down, and disappeared in the forest line.

Zeev observed the coldness of Patty. He never saw this side of her, only the warm, friendly, and welcoming one. He kind of felt bad for Romulus but this meant he was finally rid of him. He gave Patty one extra day at the hospital and then smuggled her away because the military was searching for them. Right on time, the government got wind of Patty's hospital stay and came for her just to be disappointed with an empty bed. They came too late.

Patty was resting in the bed of the cottage, a little dozing off. The whole cabin was too silent. Before she could hear Romuluses stomping and Zeeves annoyance over that. After a few days, she began to feel bad about her behavior towards Romulus, but she had all the right to be mad at him. His actions and betrayal almost killed her.

Zeev entered the room with an extra blanket. He could tell she was a little bit chilly. He lay down next to her cuddling Patty in his arms. "What happened to Natalia?" Patty broke the silence. Zeev stroked her head pressing his nose against her hair to take in that sweet scent of a living breathing Patty.

"I shunned her from the village. She won't be able to return... ever. Her parents left too, but out of their own will. I didn't force them." Patty fell silent for a few seconds. "And Romulus?"

Zeev frowned at that question. "I didn't prohibit him from entering the village. I punished him... basically, I whopped his ass and he let me. He is lurking around in the woods. I think the biggest punishment was your frigid attitude towards him."

Patty's eyes wandered over to the window and out into the tree line.
