Chapter 35:

Full Moon

Beasted

In the early morning, Patty was down in the cabin kitchen preparing breakfast. The smell of warm scrambled eggs and sandwiches spread around the whole cottage. She felt a little better and was sure she could do such a small chore like cooking.

Suddenly she realized she made too much of it because she counted in Romulus. She stopped everything that she was doing staring at the meal on three plates that she just finished serving. Zeev saw Patty being upset. "It's fine, we can eat the rest later..." He came from behind hugging her and placing a kiss on top of her head.

She sighed. "You told me, that Romulus lurks around in the woods, right? Would it be crazy if you would take this one to him?" Patty turned with her head upwards to Zeev. Not very happy about that request, especially since he betrayed and tried to kill him... but Zeev couldn't say no to Patty's puppy eyes. "If you pack it... I might go..." After they were done, she preheated that extra meal and put it into containers handing it over to Zeev with a smile.

Zeev found Romulus in his beast-like werewolf form not too far from the cabin. Romulus was at first warry of Zeev but as soon, as he stretched his hand with the box, which smelled like Patty's special scrambled eggs Romulus knew he could be calm.

He stood up on his hind legs and while walking towards Zeev he transformed into a human. He gently wrapped his fingers around the container and accepted that meal. Romulus was excited about the tasty homecooked meal.

These past days in the wilderness, he was sustaining himself only on raw meat from animals he hunted down. "Did she forgive me?" Romulus asked with a trembling innocent voice. Zeev sat down on a nearby rock that was sticking out of the ground leaning his face on his palm. "Not yet. She was just preparing breakfast today and out of the habit she made three portions instead of two."

Romulus hung his head down. "I see..." Zeev rolled his eyes because he felt bad for him, even when he didn't deserve it, so he told him also the truth. "But she did ask me to bring it over to you." Romuluse's eyes sparkled with little hope and joy.

He devoured that meal in a few seconds. It was his favorite breakfast meal from her. "Will she ever forgive me?" Zeev was observing his claws with an uninterested expression on his face. "Probably no, than yes. She was pretty mad about that deal you made with the one specific female, who tried to kill her previously."

Romulus was taken aback. "She tried to kill Patty?!" Zeeve's eyes darted to Romulus. "Yes, as soon as she spotted us together. I guess that little information was hidden from you." Romuluse's heart sank.

"Why didn't I die? My heart got broken like yours, but I didn't react in the same way as you... why? Does that mean I don't love her enough?" Zeev chuckled about that. "Nah, you do love her... and it bothers me if you want to know, but I have been smitten with her for over two decades. That's the main reason..." Romulus felt jealous about Zeev knowing Patty for that long.

Zeev stood up to collect the box and headed back home but before... "I know you are patrolling around the cabin. You are hoping to catch Natalia. But for tomorrow night, you should head to the mountains. It's a full moon and you know what happens at that time. You will be too dangerous for Patty." Romulus glared at him. "It wouldn't be the first with her..." Zeev turned one last time towards him. "I don't trust you with her."

The full moon night approached with an eerie fog spreading inside the small werewolf village. Patty hid herself in the cellar of the cabin behind a steel door with extra thick walls. Zeev prepared for her a lot of blankets, and pillows with a light so she would be warm and comfortable.

Before the sunset, she went down gifting a kiss to Zeev. With a smile, she shut and locked the door. Zeev was a little sad because he wanted to spend every single night with her but for her safety, it had to be done.

Patty couldn't sleep because of the howling coming from outside and also... inside. Zeev was still in the cabin but keeping his distance from her. Around midnight she heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Zeev in a trance-like state was aimlessly walking the corridor of the cellar with his claws scratching along the wall slowly approaching the door.

Patty perked up. She was already used to this time of the month and right now a thick iron door was standing between her and Zeev. He peeked through the bars in the top part of the door and their eyes met. The handle began to wiggle.

Patty's gaze fell on it and then back on Zeev. "Please calm down, also you shouldn't be here." She said in a whispery tone. He didn't reply. She did not want to tempt him so she averted her eyes from his.

As soon, as she did the loud banging of Zeev's shoulder on the door began. Her eyes quickly darted back towards the door. What the hell is going on?! This wasn't his normal full-moon behavior...

Anxiety began to creep in on Patty. She was trapped in there. Moreover, she had no place to escape since she was in the center of a Werewolf village and if they were flying out of the handle like Zeev right now, she would end up like wolf food in the best case or just torn to shreds.

She hoped for the door to withstand this cursed night. Patty knew that Zeev in reality meant no harm... just the moon made him go this crazy. She had no clue what was going on inside of his head. She prayed for this to be over soon.

Weird noises filled that tiny space she was sitting in. Like metal scraping and bending... The HINGES! Horrified, she watched as they bent in a weird way making the nails fall out from it. The door loosened and suddenly nothing was standing between Patty and Zeev, who had that weird blue-green glare in his werewolf eyes...
