Chapter 4:

Two Years Flash Past

Isekai Chronicles

The next two years went by so quickly it felt much, much lesser than that. Yet it was true - on my 14th birthday, Matet wished me a happy birthday, and showed me a delicious breakfast he had been cooking today.

And also, we have to go down to town today, he told me. I booked a hall for your party, and Hunters from the whole town will be attending. I think it's time you joined their Guild.

Hmm.. maybe you are right. Plus, they don't know that the cute bunny familiar they see is actually a Magic Beast.

He snorted. I would love to see their expression when they find out you have been living in the very same dungeon this kingdom is centered on- at the middle levels, too. You know no one has been able to enter and survive the Seventh Level.

Yeah. Especially Fiona, she'd eat my head off. "What are you doing, going into those super dangerous middle floors and lower floors, if something happens to you - ", she's like an overprotective mom, honestly.

No, I bet you didn't understand what happened, so I'll give you a summary of these past two years.

First, with the help of Matet, I slowly began learning how to use my weapons. I became such an expert in archery that I alone could shoot a volley of arrows. I became good enough with the sword to fight a group of Orc Raiders (which consist of 10 - 15 orcs with swords and armor)  and defeat them. I learned such powerful camouflage my making myself a mottled green, brown and grey cape, which could double as a cloak. I also learned the skill "Scout", which helped me find the numbers, levels, stats of my enemies, and let me move relatively quietly. I slowly began to learn how to set traps, and later got the skill "Trapper". I started building my house, and halfway through, I got the skill "Engineer", which overwrote my "Trapper" skill, by making it easier to build any structure for me if I know it's structure in theory. The more I use it, the greater level it became. Then I slowly built a passage from underneath my home to the surface. Then, I went up to the surface after disguising myself as a girl and asked all the shop owners what are the prices of the goods they owned. Then I went to the public library and borrowed a few books and started reading them. I started learning how to do magic, which if good enough turns into one of your skills, so you can use that magic without much drain on your energy. Magic guzzles your spiritual energy, called mana - but skills don't. However, some skills have a cooldown and a casting period. I slowly learned the workings of the town, and I began to sell meat here, along with skins and soon, I began to use those skins, claws and fangs as base material to try and make weapons. After a while, I could make rough knives from long and thick fangs of a few monsters. After a while, I discovered that Matet could communicate through telepathy, as he warned me that there was a party of nearly a hundred goblins lying in wait for me. I defeated them, and learned the skill "Warrior" - it helped me master new weapons a bit quicker. I quickly learnt the skill "Hunter" and after sometime, I even learnt magic skills. I went deeper and deeper into the dungeon, and there, I sometimes stayed for days, not needing to sleep. I went so deep I met my first boss monster. And - to my surprise - it was an ogre. After seeing it, I drew a picture of it, and went back home with Matet. Matet kept growing in size. After seeing all of his characteristics, I came to the conclusion that he might have been a cross between two Magic Beasts - The Golden Fox and the Velvet Hare. His magic also grew stronger - and soon, even he began learning skills. I learnt how to tame Beasts and monsters (of which only a few could be tamed), and slowly began to tame multiple beasts. I tamed a male and female of every kind except slimes, which I caught only one. I slowly tried breeding them with each other to give required characteristics. I built more shelters for all my beasts, and recently, I learned how to keep them in another dimension when I'm traveling, so I could take them with me - they never allowed me to travel otherwise. I got a host of other new skills, which I can't all tell you now - I keep forgetting them until I need to use them.

And, for my birthday, I got a completely unexpected surprise.
