Chapter 53:

Chapter 53: Finale

Howl

The berserk Amber grabbed Ferral's head, picked him up, and used her other hand to repeatedly punch his front body. With his body unable to move, Ferral couldn't defend himself. To make matters worse, now that he was back to his original transformed state, each blow felt twenty times stronger. All the other experiments were still worn out from what Amber had done to them prior, they could only watch helplessly.
Amber let go of Ferral's head, grabbed his right side then raised him into the air. She threw him down against her knee, Ferral screamed in pain as a long crack came from his spine. Still on her knee, she socked his gut causing him to cough up blood. She dropped him on the ground, stood over him and started slamming both her fists against his chest. Amber stopped to grab Ferral by the leg, picked him up and started thrashing his body on the ground and against some close buildings. Upon each impact, Ferral let out an agonizing cry. She threw him back at the ground, the force of the throw was so strong it made his body bounce back up a little before laying on the floor fully. Amber kicked Ferral up against the side of a building, where she continued her rampage with another barrage of punches against his face, stomach, and ribs.
All the while, people around the world watched Ferral's suffering. At the bar where Avery and Bose were at, Avery looked away while Bose held her. Him along with the others watching cringed with every blow he took. Meanwhile, Clare and Buck speechless sat in horror. Buck's expression of frustration, while Clare watched in shock her body trembling and tears running down her eyes.
Amber stopped her attack, letting Ferral's seemingly lifeless body slump to the floor against the building. He did manage to move one part of his body, weakly lifting up his arm. Amber noticed this and rammed her foot into Ferral's chest, again and again. His arm fell back down, but she didn't stop, each blow making Ferral's hand twitch. It got to the point where it no longer did, but Amber threw a few more before stopping completely. Ferral lay there, hanging by a thread, trying to not die.
Leona, unable to watch anymore, finally started limping toward the two, Ezekiel grabbing her right arm. “You can't,” He said, “You're not strong enough.” She rolled her eyes, not saying a word, and pulled back her hand. As she started walking again she turned her head, “I'm not going to stand by and watch that idiot be murdered.” Ezekiel moving closer pleaded, “But…you'll die too.” Leona clenching her jaw in anger, whipped her head back, “I'M NOT GOING TO LOSE FERRAL LIKE WE DID BELLE!!!” She shouted, trying to hold back tears. She turned back around and raced toward him and Amber, and as Amber was about to attack again, she turned around to see Leona coming at them.
She roared at her, but Leona went for a kick that Amber blocked but managed to be pushed out of the way. While she was disorientated, Leona looked down at Ferral, “The hell are you doing, Ferral?!” He weakly lifted up his head to see Leona standing over him. “I'm…too…weak…” Amber regaining her focus lunged at Leona, extending her arms out to grab her. Leona grabbed them, being pushed to the ground, she looked back at Ferral. “You're a lotta things Ferral, weak’s not one of them!” She pushed off Amber, but was punched to the ground. As she strained to get up, Leona continued to talk with Ferral. “Every time you fight, you've always found a way to win.” She was slammed back to the ground, getting back up. “Me, Leonidas, and even with this fake Dr. Amber…” As Leona struggled back up she quickly blocked one of Amber’s attacks, the impact still having a great effect. “I know you'll win, there's no limit to us and that includes you! So c'mon, you idiot….LET YOUR STRENGTH ERUPT!!!”
As Leona was knocked back, Amber charged at her only to be met with Ezekiel coming in and punching her across the face. He turned back to Ferral, “Hey buddy. Now, I know I can't avenge my sister, but YOU can!” He charged toward Amber to assist Leona, then the other remaining experiments started jumping in to help. Hyde quickly squatted in front of Ferral, “C'mon Al, ol’ buddy, ol’ pal. You pick your ass up so you can kick hers. You're probably the most qualified out of all of us.” He got back up and ran toward the fight. Another person stopped in front of Ferral, it was Ms. Jaguar. “Given how long you've lasted, your friends were right, you are impressive. And something tells me you're less than finished.” She went toward the fight, leaving Ferral alone while he watched all of the take on Amber. Even with them all ganging up, they were still no match for her. Each one being taken out in one or two hits, some even killed.
Ferral knew he couldn't watch anymore, so he used any ounce of strength he had to pick himself up, gripping the building that was behind him for support. As he stood there, Ferral was still unable to move any further. He continued to watch, still feeling weak and now helpless.
*Come one!* Ferral thought, *If I really do have more in me, I've got to use it!* *I have to get in there and help! If I don't, Leona, Ezekiel, everyone….I’M GOING TO LOSE THEM ALL!!!!*
Amber continued to tear through each one of the experiments; the last remaining two, Ezekiel and Leona, charged again simultaneously at Amber. But this time she was ready, impaling Ezekiel in the stomach and slicing Leona even deeper into the chest. Ferral gasped in shock as the two were attacked, both their bodies falling to the ground, neither were moving. As the sky was still gray, whatever rain had stopped and everything went silent. Everything except for Amber letting out another ear piercing roar. Ferral, still staring stunned at the unmoving bodies of his friends, finally snapped…..

“Grrr….HYAAAAAGH!!!!!”
He threw his head back, letting out a loud and powerful scream. So powerful, it shattered the windows from the building behind him. Amber noticed this and lunged at him, delivering a strong right hook to his face. Her face of anger turned into surprise after Ferral, now back in his awakened state, had taken the punch. “Is that all?” He asked, grabbing her wrist and removing her hand. She pulled it back, while starting to walk away from Ferral. “Tsk, my turn then.” In a flash he launched a violent kick directly into her gut, then launched her back into a worn out fence, landing her into an alley. As she got up, Amber saw Ferral walking toward her but through her clouded and distorted vision she did not see Ferral, but the black misty form of a large wolf. With red beaming eyes, and sharpened fangs. She could feel this icy cold fill her body, as if staring in the face of death itself.
She growled, trying to ignore the fear and attacked at Ferral again. He dodged a few of her attacks and blocked another, getting pushed back into the alley. She charged with all her strength to deliver a final blow, so Ferral did the same. And in two quick swipes, the fight was over. As Ferral stood behind Amber, three claw marks opened on the right side of his face. Amber on the other hand, let out a small gasp before grabbing her throat which had started pouring out blood. Then she fell to her knees and face first into the ground. Ferral, exhausted, fell back and landed right beside Amber’s now lifeless body. Ferral looked up at the sky, the clouds had started to roll away and the bright sky opened up. As he lay there, it felt as if this huge amount of pressure was released from him, and Ferral smiled as he closed his left eye to bask in the sun. He had won….

3 Weeks Later:
A quiet beeping filled Ferral's ears as he slowly started to open his left eye. As he looked up at the hospital ceiling, it didn't take him long to figure out where he was. He remembered the place when Ms. Clare was brought here what felt like so long ago. Ferral groaned as he sat upright in the hospital bed, looking around, and noticed the IV attached to his right arm. He also felt the electrodes that were stuck to his chest and the wires attached to them leading to the heart monitor. He ripped each on off, including the IV, and slowly got off the bed. His feet touching the cold floor, sending a small shiver through his body. Ferral began to walk, stumbling the first few steps as he made his way to the window that was in his room. He stood in front of it staring at his reflection, he saw all the bandages that covered most of his body. The ones that stood out to him were those wrapped around his amputated left arm and his right eye.
As so many things raced through his mind, he did not hear Ms. Clare came inside of the room until she dropped her purse. Ferral quickly turned to see her standing in front of him, two locking eyes but not saying a word. Ferral gave a small smile, “Hi, Ms. Clare.” He greeted her with a small wave, his voice a little hoarse. Still not saying anything, Ms. Clare walked over to Ferral and hugged him tightly, small sniffles as she cried into his shoulder. “I'm so happy you're alive,” She said between sobs, “I'm so happy…” Ferral smiled even more, hugging her back, the two holding each other as tightly as they could. Ferral ignored the pain of his soreness.
Ferral asked what had happened after his fight and how he ended up here. Ms. Clare said that after everything was over, law enforcement from the other islands came to extract whatever remaining experiments that were still alive. Including Ferral and Leona. “So, that means…” Ms Clare held his hand and nodded, “Yes, Ezekiel didn't make it. I'm sorry, Ferral.” He scowled, feeling angry with himself. “This really is all my fault.” He cursed to himself. “It's not your fault, Ferral. Some things are just out of our control. Sometimes there are happy endings for everyone.” He looked down at the floor, saddened that so many poor people died because of him. Ms. Clare lifted up his head, giving him a reassuring smile. “Hey now, even though things turned out bittersweet, you still came out alive. And you did achieve what you set out to do, so overall, things aren't that bad, right?” Still somewhat upset, nodded. He knew he still had somewhat of a part to play.
“What happened to those who died?” Ferral asked, “And what about Dr. Atlas?” Clare calmed him down, “Those who were killed were given proper burials in the different islands. Sorry you weren't there for Belle and Ezekiel’s.” Ferral nodded upset that he wasn't there for their funeral. “As for that Atlas guy, he made a statement saying he didn't care about the other experiments but only wanted you. I, nor any of the other officials, would give you up to him. To be honest, no one knew what to do with you or any of the other experiments. So, they put you under my care.” Ferral was glad that at least everything worked out in the end. And the two left hospital after filling out Ferral's release.
As the two left, they were met with Buck and Leona sitting on the bench outside of the hospital. They got up, Mr. Buck hugged Ferral, pulling back and ruffling his hair. “Good on ya, mate. You kicked butt out there.” Ferral chuckled, then looked at Leona. She too had plenty of bandages wrapped around her chest and atop her head. “How are you still alive, Leona?” He asked. She gave a sarcastic chuckle, “Good ol’ nine lives. Or at least that's what I'm gonna cope with.” They laughed and Leona wrapped one of her arms around Ferral's neck. “You may have surpassed me for now. But I'll get even stronger, then kick your ass a second time, you idiot.” Ferral smirked, “Guess I'll have to make sure that doesn't happen.” As Ms. Clare and Mr. Buck started walking off, Leona playful pushed Ferral away and the two caught up with them. “So uh, can we get something to eat?” Ferral said, “Because I'm starving.” “I'm with Ferral on this one.” Leona added. Ms. Clare looked, “Don't worry, we'll grab something on the way home.” The two simultaneously excitedly said “Yes.”
