Chapter 6:

Ship to the New World

Rueda the Witch

I'm at the harbor, there sure are a lot of ships here, from big merchant ships, and ferries, and for some reason, there is also a pirate ship here if my eyes are correct, they have a skull and bones flag.

A merchant is sitting near the huge ship smoking cigarettes while his crews are loading the ship, I go to him to ask for something, "Do you own this ship?"

He is a big burly man with a long white beard and mustache, his lips are black from smoking, and just now I realized that his right leg is prosthetic.

"Yeah, why?" He answers nonchalantly.

"I'm going to the new world, can I, board your ship?"

"Do you know the dangers of the ocean to the new world?" He's now talking with a more serious tone, "There are pirates and beasts that don't have mercy you know?"

He underestimates me, "I am more dangerous than those outcasts."

He puffs smoke, "Whatever, girl. Give me an elephant's tusk, then I'll let you board my ship."

"Easy."

An elephant doesn't sound that hard, it's just a dumb animal, they can't even fly.

The jungle deep in the region should have lots of elephants, it's about an hour away from here, or half an hour if I push hard. I can't trust this guy to not leave me before I come back if I take too long, I need to do it quickly.

I fly at maximum speed to the jungle which takes me just over half an hour, and use quite a bit of my energy. Now that makes me wonder, how fast is the death machine that Anne made? Her device felt faster than me at my maximum speed, or maybe because I have no control I feel like it's going faster than it actually is.

This is a dense jungle, I can barely see what is on the ground, everything is covered by huge trees. The jungle itself is huge too, I can't see where the jungle ends from up here, everything is just trees and trees as far as the eye can see.

I fly lower, just below the trees, slowly, looking for these big-eared beasts. I wish there was magic to locate creatures, but it probably will use a lot of energy because of the area. Maybe instead of the magic locating the creatures, what if it calls them? Like making a sound or signal? I'm not a magic scholar, but that sounds good to me.

Where are these elephants? All I have seen this past half an hour is just monkeys, birds, and tigers, did they go extinct or what?

I start shouting, calling for the elephants to show up while flying around the jungle, it's not fun. But at last, I could hear elephants trumpeting, I rushed to the sound and found a herd of elephants walking away from the jungle, probably scared of my voice earlier.

I don't think they know that I fly over them, good. I fly to the front of their herd, aiming between the eyes of an elephant who's left behind. I use a lot more power than I usually use for shooting humans, to ensure that I can kill it in one shot.

I think I used a little bit too much power because it just went straight through its head and exploded the ground under it, hopefully, it doesn't damage the ivory though.

I wait for the rest of the herd to run away, I don't want to get mauled by them.

I land near the elephant, and it's dead, holy shit I'm good.

I cut the tusks with this sustained magic ray, but make it the tiniest I can make it so I don't use much energy.

I fly back to the merchant guy and when I arrive there, he's still puffing cigs like it's candies, I feel bad for his lungs.

I bring the tusks to him, "I got them."

I can see him a little bit surprised but then try to hide it, "I didn't expect you to get them, but I'm a man of my word, so let's board the ship, we're departing soon."

We climb the stairs to the ship, the ship is so tall that they need to dock the ship further away from the pier so the gangways used to go in and out of the ship aren't too steep to walk on.

As I step my feet on the ship, just now I realized the actual scale of this giant ship. I can barely see the peak of the mast from the bottom, the sails are probably just as big as a dragon's wings.

This ship looks like a huge waste of resources but I guess it's a technical marvel.

The merchant guy is calling one of his crew, "George!"

He sprints here, "Yes, captain!"

"Show this lady her room, she's my guest."

He bows down to me, "Please follow me."

I follow him inside, there are a lot of rooms inside here, does he give each of his crew their own room? I guess not all merchants are stingy bastards.

George stopped in the middle of the ship, in front of a door which I guess is my room, "Here is your room."

"Thank you."

I walk inside the room and it looks very comfortable. A huge bed just for myself, the room is pretty and clean, and there is quick access to a window in case I want to puke into the ocean.

This is the only reason I chose this ship, because in my mind they must have a comfy room somewhere inside for important guests, and on this trip the important guest is me.

But I think the food will still be bad, because this is a month trip, and this is the best that anyone can have, I have to just accept it, it's still miles better than the ships I rode on in the past.
