Chapter 7:

Surprisingly Good Rations

Rueda the Witch

I spent the entire night sleeping like a sloth and even skipped dinner because it's just too comfy sleeping here, I don't even care if I'm inside a ship of someone that I don't even know the name of, and his crew that are all men.

Now, I'm hungry, really hungry. I go outside the room and meet one of the crew walking by and then he greets me, "Morning, you look hungry, breakfast is ready soon on the ground floor."

Did he read my mind or did I look that hungry? "Thank you."

Seems like his crew is kind, I guess the captain is kind too even though he looks like a retired pirate, and then it trickles down to his subordinates.

I walk downstairs and I start smelling something good, smells like some kind of fried or grilled meat. Wait, how do they cook inside a ship without burning it down? Am I just very out of touch with technology?

There is already a long line for the food, the smell is getting stronger every time the line moves forward, it just makes me more hungry.

I finally get my food, it's a plate of rice and a small slice of fried pork with some kind of sauce. It looks good, and after pondering the beauty of this food, I eat it, it tastes as good as it looks. I don't know if I'm just so hungry that anything can taste good, but it is pretty amazing for breakfast in the middle of the ocean. Usually, we only eat biscuits, fish, cheese or something like that, that last for a long time.

I need to ask the captain about this, and maybe talk about other things too.

I want to eat more, but they probably won't appreciate an outsider eating more than she should in the middle of the ocean. I don't think I can get away as easily as when I'm at Gwyn because they have cannons here.

Everyone just left their plate on the table after eating, well that's convenient, they most likely have crews that take care of the dishes.

I go to the front of the ship because the captain's cabin is usually there unless they're dumb or a coward, a captain needs to act and get control of his subordinates quickly if something is happening.

I found it, my intuition was correct, I am an experienced veteran after all.

I knock on the door, he answers "Come in."

I open the door, he's still smoking, does this guy even breathe anything other than tobacco? "I come to hang out for a bit if you don't mind."

"Did you get bored already?" He smirks.

I ignore it, and instead ask him "What should I call you, captain?"

"You can call me Ben, what about you?"

"Rueda."

"What are you going to do in New World?"

"Just hunting, and do some refreshing, this part of the world can get pretty boring."

"Must be a special beast for you to go that far."

I think he knows what I'm looking for, maybe not the actual beasts but he knows that I'm going for a rare beast. "Nythern, do you know that?"

"Are you going to take down that dangerous wyvern by yourself?"

"It's not like I have anyone, or maybe?" I'm trying to get him to help me, it will make the fight much easier for me while they're getting molten by acid.

"What do I get by helping you?"

"I only want its tears, you can do whatever you want with the rest."

He's tapping his table, probably thinking if it's worth the risk. "How can I know if you're not going to just sit back while we do all the work?"

Dammit, he knows, how do I convince him? I can't just show my power here, or else I'll destroy this ship, I mean I could do it outside but it attracts too much attention if the size of this ship isn't already attracting too much attention from pirates.

I can't just tell my real plan either, I can't trust him to not snitch to the empire or betray me. "Whatever, I can do it myself and then have the locals take the rest or something."

"Have fun then." He didn't care from the looks of it.

"By the way, the food was good, how do they cook inside?"

"We have these mana stone powered stoves, and we also have a cold room for storing goods." He explains.

"So this ship isn't just big, but also advanced."

"Because I care about my people and my products."

"Did Anne Williams make this, ship?" I'm just guessing, but I can't imagine anyone else making this.

"How did you know?"

"She's a good friend of mine, and almost killed me a few days ago."

"Why?"

"Let's just say that I tested her new invention, it was highly unsafe and terrifying."

Someone barges in, he's sweating and panicked, "Captain! we're being attacked!"

The captain rushes outside immediately and calls his crews.

I guess this is the chance to show my power and have him on my side, it's kind of annoying but also a good opportunity.
