Chapter 2:
Kingdom of Light
The next day the kingdom remained without a leader. Caelus was the grandson of the second queen, his mother had lead the world raid against the First King, and disappeared. Caelus had blue eyes and black hair much like his mother, he had always wanted to be a royal adventurer, the ones who protect the city whenever danger appeared. He was a kind-hearted person like his mother, she was the Sovereign of the light, separate from the ruler of the kingdom. The Sovereign of the Light was a new title given to her for her ability to wield a tremendous amount of light energy, the people gave her that name and so she adopted it, while many people had hopes of her succeeding her mother, she refused, while the second queen had already prepared for by making the king ruler. Caelus was fourteen when the raid against the king began, the last time he would see his mother, he remembers her smile as she said they’ll succeed this time, she promised she’ll come home, a promise unkept. It had been five years since then and despite the First kings defeat Caelus’s mother never returned. Caelus had kept to himself after the invasion. The walls that surround the kingdom were magic-infused, they would raise when the kingdom was threatened and would be out of sight when it was safe, but due to the damage caused by Onyx they stayed up until the repairs finished. Caelus would leave his room for the first time in a few days now, the sound of his footsteps on the carpeted floor echoed lightly, making his way through the palace as he had been called to the council room by Commander Winter, where the remaining Council members were meeting to discuss the absence of a ruler. Caelus knew they would try and appoint him as temporary king until this war ended in which they would then find a proper solution, even if he didn’t want to, he had no real choice when it came to down to it. Caelus saw himself as unfit to be king, he only thought this way because he had done nothing during the invasion, he was powerless to help but he still believes he could’ve done something. He was nothing compared to late the king, or his mother, the both of them went out protecting the kingdom while all he could do was wait for some kind of miracle that would grant him power. He reaches the doors to the room and he can already hear shouting, Caelus takes in a deep breath before pushing against the door. “The next to rule this kingdom would have been your mother, but in her absence, it falls onto you, Caelus” Winter says turning the attention onto me, as I enter the room, it played out exactly as I thought. My grandmother had disappeared after having spoken with Mother and the newly appointed king, nobody knows where she went or if she's even alive, the chances of her returning aren’t very likely, “I’ll play the role as king for now, only until I find my mother and bring Draksis and Onyx down,” I turn to take my leave, not bothering to stay for the rest of the meeting, “wait,” spoke Commander Anthony, he was the worst. I could tell the king wanted him removed from his title, he wasn’t deserving of it. He was a manipulative coward who hid behind his troops despite being able to wield an affinity himself, "Don’t be foolish Caelus, if you were to fall, the last heir to the royal lineage would be gone and then what would we do?” Anthony nags, it would work in his favor if I were gone, he’d probably find a way to make himself king or make it someone he can control,
“ plus you are not fit to join this battle, despite being the queen of lights son you are yet to wield the Magi let alone show signs of being able to wield light,” Commander Anthony yells back, The Magi was merely in name, its just magic without the c, not very creative but oh well. It was dubbed the official name of the magic of this world, your given the power to wield one specific type, whether its moon, space, or void, although those three specifically are super rare there are many more that are bestowed to the people at random or some can inherit power from their family, like three of six commanders, three of of them are descendants from the first queens council so they were all designated specific power, there powers were fire, ice, lightning, plant, and last two aren’t known. And like Anthony said, I was supposed to have light affinity and have a decent control on said light power, but nothing, and not everyone can wield Light energy, supposedly only those with direct lineage to the first queen can, like me, or I was supposed to. Winter steps forward, going to defend me. "It's alright Winter,” I continue, "He’s right. I can’t wield the light yet but I will, even without it I’ll bring those two down, it’ll be more work than you’ve ever done.” Unknowingly exerting a strange amount of power that was not of light, the six commanders present felt this pressure come off him that left them with dread, as if the powers within them were reacting to the strange force, it startled all of them, the pressure began to fade as Caelus left, but the feeling of such darkness lingered as a feeling of uncertainty among the commanders. Caelus knew Anthony was right. I can already tell that they won't approve of me going into the battle, being the last heir and all as Anthony mentioned. Walking through the palace halls had always been strange, they were wide with a lined red carpet going down the middle, and windows overlooked the east area of the kingdom, off in the distance the treasure kingdom sat while banners with the kingdoms insignia hung overhead on the right wall, but it always felt like someone had been watching me, but not this time, I no longer feel the gaze of the unknown. Instead, it's replaced with a cold feeling, power beings to swell inside me, a miracle. The light was energy, referred to as that because of the way it is, the good force, Those who had it ruled the kingdom, starting from the First Queen. With the sudden awaking in my power, I can properly join in the fight now.
