Chapter 3:

Not because I made a promise

Impending Doom

The king watched that scene in horror. That was the first time his henchmen had been defeated so easily. His power was the one responsible for shaking the ground and breaking the house. He made the ground below Kanata shake.

— We're the ones who underestimated you...

— You're still here? Do you wanna die?

— I won't leave my friends behind. If I can't avenge them, I'll die with them.

— Why did you let them die? If you fought me first, they would have a chance of surviving.

— They died in a battle, that's the greatest honor a warrior could have.

— I see that your country values fighting more than anything else.

— You're no different.

— Perhaps. See that mountain over there? I scanned it to see if anyone was there. Since there wasn't, my plan was to send the three of you there. Now I don't care about it anymore.

— That empty promise of yours? Forget the ants and enjoy the fight. Strong people are not good at keeping promises.

Wave the ground shake again, much stronger than before. Kanata stared at him with disdain.

— My only two reasons to hold back were the promise and my brother. Now that they both are gone, nothing in this country will remain intact.

The king sweated with fear, forcing a smile.

— That's what I wanted to see! You don't care about weaklings anymore!

— You got one part of that wrong. I was never on their side.

Before he could realize it, her hand had already grabbed his head. She dragged his body on the ground for kilometers and then threw him upwards. She began running in circles so quickly that it formed a strong tornado, which destroyed everything nearby. The buildings, houses, skycrapers went flying everywhere, breaking some parts of the city.

Wave caused the ground to shake with such force that it became a magnitude 8 earthquake. The entire city was affected, killing almost 25% of its habitants, including heroes. Some boulders went flying everywhere. Kanata avoided most of them, but one still hit her head, causing little damage. She was getting angrier at that sight. How could someone weaker than her destroy a city before she could? She didn't want to be left behind.

Phy ran to a nearby skyscraper and grabbed it by the wall. She threw one, the another, then dozens more. It was like a snowball fight, except it was a little more dangerous. Wave dodged some of them but they were too much. His body got sent to the other side of the city. His head was already bleeding a bit. Kanata was already behind him, holding a skyscraper. She swung it and hit him again, launching him towards more buildings and destroying everything in the path.

Until now, there were millions of people dead, in the blink of an eye. He made the ground shake again and boulders, buildings, cars, even people fly away. More buildings fell towards him, like a rain of arrows. Their scale kept increasing, until there were huge chunks of land in the sky. Entire neighborhoods and their undergrounds were being ripped off the ground and being thrown towards the king. Of course, he could not avoid all of them, so he destroyed them with his power.

Kanata came from behind and connected a direct punch to his back. He got sent to the other side of the city again, like a game of table tennis. He was now bleeding a little more, with his back severely damaged. He quickly jumped towards a skyscraper's rooftop to see where her enemy was. It was a bit tilted by his power, but he could stand on it easily. Kanata appeared behind him again, ready to throw a punch to his head.

He managed to arch his back on time, dodging it by centimeters. He grabbed her arm and swung her vertically to the ground. She stood up in a milissecond, annoyed by the fact that she could not hit him. She tried to calm herself down and use a more powerful attack. She flicked her fingers towards him, sending powerful wind shots. He dodged it easily. Now, she was throwing thousands of them every second. He felt like he was dodging bullets, except many of them hit him, like in an unbalanced game where some attacks are impossible to avoid.

His body was bleeding where the shots that pierced him. He healed them with a magic spell.

I don't have infinite mana, but I can at least survive for a while.

He still coughed a lot of blood, since he was not a professional wizard. The fact that he could revert the damage he took was infuriating to Kanata. Plus, it was time for her to use an attack that was really impossible to dodge.

She snapped her fingers.

A shockwave strong enough to be classified as an atomic explosion came from her hand. The entire building they were standing on was gone, reduced to atoms. Almost 5% of the city vaporized instantly with that attack, but the rest of it was also affected. Almost every window on Tokyo shattered. They were now falling, seeing everything fall apart in slow motion. Wave also lost his hearing. He watched that scene in awe, almost jealousy.

As the strongest hero, Phy, fought Wave, king of Lunig, she began to open her arms. Wave shrunk back in fear, then Kanata said:

— Fuck you. I'm stronger.

He couldn't hear what she said, so he got confused. What was she about to do?

She clapped her hands.

Another shockwave destroyed what remained of the city, quite literally. 20% of the city instantly vaporized, while the rest got separated from where they were, like an absurdly powerful earthquake. Wave was not the only who could use the tectonic plates to his favor. His body also disappeared. Somehow, his body regenerated almost instantly.

— You're not dead yet?

Kanata grabbed his head and threw him towards the ground. Another nuclear explosion affected the city. The whole surface shattered. Now, almost 90% of the population of the city was dead. Most of the survivors were heroes strong enough to withstand all the impacts, or just lucky. Since Japan was an island, it got pushed down slightly. The country was heavily affected by the changes on climate, topography, material losses and deaths.

Phy landed next to his unconscious body and grabbed him by the hair to look directly into his eyes.

— This isn't over yet. Wake up.

She slapped his face thousands of times, until his cheeks were red as a tomato. He woke up, startled. She smiled and shook his body at such a speed that time was slightly distorted. She released his body towards Mount Takao, Tokyo's mountain. A hole was made on it as his body pierced the mountain at dozens of times the speed of sound. Not only that, half of the mountain disappeared due to the explosion of the impact.

Kanata jumped towards the tip of the mountain and grabbed it. She swung it vertically, slamming it into the surface of the forest nearby. Thousands of people living on the mountain died before they could know of what happened to the city. Wave's body got erased once again and he regenerated a bit slower than before. Phy landed next to him and kicked him upwards. When he was aligned with her fist, she punched him with the maximum strength she had.

He was launched into the sky. But he didn't stop at the height of the clouds. He went way beyond that. After less than a minute, his almost dead body reached the Moon, shattering the entire surface. Kanata jumped after she punched him, killing even more people due to the impact she needed to go so far away. She arrived next to him and kicked his body, trying to wake him up.

Her body could resist the space's conditions for hours easily. His, however, was at its limit. He died again when he landed on the Moon, but he regenerated painfully after. He stood up slowly, vomiting even more blood. He tried to smile, looking at her with his blurry vision.

— You're enjoying this, aren't you...? You could have killed me without destroying your land, so you did this all on purpose...

He was instinctively using a communication spell to make the sound travel between them.

— Shut up. You're the one who wanted this.

She leaped towards him and dragged his head across the ground. He made the surface shatter, sending huge boulders everywhere. The ground was hard to stand on, so Kanata improvised a technique: blowing with her mouth to send her body in the opposite direction. She jumped from island to island and kicked, punched and headbutted him with such force that he became unconscious everytime.

The scale of the battle got so intense that almost 30% of the Moon was gone. When she was satisfied, she sat on a floating rock.
