Chapter 2:
Impending Doom
This is unfair. How can a ninja travel through time and I can't?
Kanata was in a bathtub. For some reason, the light was off. She could still see things clearly, since her body was the self embodiment of perfection.
The door opened and her little brother entered. He turned his back to turn the light on and close the door, so he didn't see her at first. When he faced the bathtub, he instantly blushed.
— Ara, Yuto, I didn't know you were so straightforward...
— What are you doing here?! Who takes a bath with the lights off?
— The lights are useless to me, remember? I can see even in the darkest night.
— That sounds like a threat... Wait, have you ever sneaked into my room while I was sleeping?
— Maybe... Does that really matter?
— Of course that does matter!
— Don't be so mad, bro. You came here to take a bath, right? We can share the water.
— No, not even in a dream!
Suddenly, she was already behind him. Her speed was too much for the human eye to follow, so he was caught off guard. Her naked breasts were pressing against his back. He got as red as a tomato.
— You rejected my offer so promptly, that makes me sad... But don't worry, I won't give up on you so easily.
She hugged him in a seducing way. His body automatically heated up, but he tried to stay calm. He pushed her away gently with his eyes closed.
— I'll have to reject that offer once again, big sis. Thanks, but it's a bit wrong, you know.
— Ara, is it wrong for a sister to comfort her little brother before a big battle?
— You'll fight someone?
— Yes, and they seem to be pretty strong.
— Wait, there are multiple enemies this time?
— You know it wouldn't be fair if I got to 1v1 someone, right?
— Who is stronger? You, or them?
— Well, if they work as a team or know about me beforehand, they might cause me a little trouble.
— But would you lose?
— Nah, I'd win.
— So I bet on you, sister.
Yuto put his hand on her shoulder and smiled to give her more motivation.
— Please put on some clothes already!
Alright, this seems to be the place.
Kanata was in the location Hayate specified to her in a message. It was an observation tower in the city center. When she left the elevator, she noticed many tables where people were eating, like a restaurant. It was a commercial tower, after all. With her powerful vocal chords, she shouted to everyone:
— I'm sorry to interrupt your dinner, but I need you all to get out of this place as soon as possible. Otherwise, I'll kill you.
I don't like to tarnish my imagem even further, but it makes things easy and simple.
They ran towards the elevator like there was no tomorrow. Some were left with her, since the limit of people was exceeded. They were shaking with fear and crying. She just sighed and ignored them.
When everyone left, she approached the window to enjoy the view. It was night, so the futuristic lights were beautiful. Suddenly, a pink and yellow portal appeared behind her. It didn't make any noise at first, but she sensed it instantly.
Kanata walked around the portal cautiously. On the other side, there was a dark room. It looked like a throne room, where a king would rest. When she saw someone, she hid behind it, where they wouldn't see at first. One voice could be heard:
— Wave, I cannot hold it anymore, I just wanna open my eyes, you know?
They're speaking japanese? I thought they were from another world...
The person who said it came out of the portal first. He was a short boy, with short, straight, dark blue hair. He wore a brown coat, even though Kanata felt heat coming out from the other side. They were probably from a tropical country, so that choice of clothing was really strange. Another voice:
— Don't worry, Freet. You can release it now.
The boy opened his light blue eyes and everything in front of him started to cool down. After some seconds, a large cone-shaped area was completely frozen. It covered almost 10% of the city. It came from his eyes, so that was probably his power.
Another man came out of the portal. He was short, but taller than the boy. He had brown short hair, looking like a manga protagonist. He also had yellow eyes and wore a light blue and grey coat, like an adventurer. With his hands in his normal pants, he smiled proudly. He took his hand out of his pocket and placed it on the boy's shoulder.
— Well done, Freet. You cleaned up the excess weaklings. Now, the strong ones will come flying at us.
The last member of the group came out of the portal. She was taller than the other two and had grey hair, twintail, red eyes, slightly dark skin, white royal uniform and black skirt. Also, she was holding a big sledgehammer behind her back. She said:
— Do you want me to heat up the place, king? The ants will have no choice but to send their strongest guardians here.
— No need, Tempera. There's someone behind us right now.
Kanata approached them carefully, walking around them.
— How did you notice me?
— I can smell strong people. You seem to be the strongest one here.
— You better entertain me. I already broke the promise of zero casualties.
— Wait, did you really promise that? Why would you fight for those ants?
— You got one part from that wrong. I'm not fighting for them.
— So you're here to fight us.
— Exactly. But there was a cute girl who asked me to not kill anyone, so this is frustrating.
— Well, I guess everyone got their priorities. Nice to meet you, my name is Wave, king of Lunig.
— Mine's Kanata. Not that you'll remember it, anyway.
— Oh, I'll remember it, for sure.
— I'm saying you'll be dead, dumbass.
— And I'm saying I won't die, no matter what.
The girl walked in front of him. The tower started to melt. She stared in Kanata's eyes with anger and said:
— King, let me kill her for you, please. I won't tolerate any disrespect towards you.
— Are you sure? She seems out of your league. If she's not, leave some for me at least.
— Understood. I won't disappoint you, my king.
Everything around her started heating up even more. The metal parts were already liquid, the floor was harder to walk on. The place was probably thousands of degrees, but Kanata was just sweating a little. She waved her hand towards her head to get some fresh air. She smiled mockingly and said:
— I never understood the purpose of a sauna. Like, why would you even enjoy feeling in hell?
The girl opened her eyes wide, absolutely irritated. She ran towards Kanata to hit her head with the sledgehammer.
She's easy to tease. I must check her strength level.
She just stood there, waiting for the hammer to connect. When it hit her head, she was pushed into the sky. She flew a few kilometers before losing speed, still in the air.
Level 6 strength, maybe? Let's see if her power is stronger-
Kanata took a better look at the city. The frozen area was bigger than she expected. Actually, her house was also affected.
Wait, Yuto is still home... This can't be possible. No, this can't be happening. I have to check if he's okay now!
Tempera jumped to hit her body with the hammer again. Angry, Kanata just took the weapon and broke it. Then, she grabbed her neck and squeezed it so hard that her head got separated from the body. She fell and ran towards her house at top speed, reaching it in less than a second. She entered Yuto's bedroom and saw his frozen body.
He was currently a level 5, stronger and faster than most heroes in the association. However, he was unable to escape the frozen grasp. Maybe because he was distracted playing a game again. Kanata fell to her knees, hopeless. The house started shaking uncontrollably, like in a really powerful earthquake.
The entire building collapsed, breaking all the ice, including her little brother's body. The blue haired boy approached her from behind and said mockingly, from a safe distance:
— Do you like it? This is the first time I kill so many people with my power! This is what you get for underestimating us. Wait, where is Tempera?
She stood up slowly and turned around in a sinister way. She looked into the boy's eyes, with her soulless orange eyes. Before he knew it, her fingers were inside his face, crawling into him and causing as much pain as possible. She then pinned his body down and punched his head until there was no dust left.
