Chapter 109:

The impenetrable London system

En Passant Grandmaster

Mimoko tapped her fingers as she stared at Hyde. She had already moved her pawn to d4, however, Hyde still had yet to make his first move. Since he had plenty of time on his clock, Mimoko prepared herself for the long wait.

"So Jekyll is dead... Then I must make haste and crush you," Hyde glared as he moved his pawn to d5.

"So then I assume Iori's friend won," Mimoko nodded as she moved her knight to f3.

"Yes, but that does little to help you. Though you may be a prodigy, I'm known as the chess world's Jack the ripper," Hyde declared as he moved his knight to f6.

"Then I'll be the one to take you down," Mimoko declared as she moved her bishop to f4.

Hyde began to scowl as he stared at the board. He recognized the set-up Mimoko had all too well. "You filth, the London system!?" he fumed as he slammed his pawn down on c5.

"Why the reaction? The London system is one of the most sound-"

"ONLY SCUM USE IT!"

Mimoko was taken aback by Hyde's outburst. Never before had she encountered such hostility towards a good opening like the London system. "I take it you have a bad history with this?" she asked as she moved her pawn to e3.

Hyde merely let out an animalistic growl as he moved his knight to c6.

"I'll take that as a yes then. Well, perhaps it is fitting that I play a London system in London," Mimoko nodded as she moved her pawn to h3.

Hyde let out another growl and slammed his queen down on b6, but his mood immediately improved as soon as Mimoko moved her knight to c3. "You blew it! You blundered! Now get ripped to shreds!" he shouted as he captured the pawn at b2 with his queen.

"No, you just made a huge mistake," Mimoko glared as she moved her knight to b5.

Hyde didn't seem to see anything and moved his pawn to g5, allowing Mimoko to move her rook to d1. Hyde, however, captured the pawn at a2. Mimoko then moved her knight to c7, forcing Hyde to move his king to d7. She then moved her bishop to g3 as Hyde began to grow angry again.

"You spoil my castle!? CHECK!" he shouted as he slammed his queen down on a5, prompting Mimoko to move her knight to d2.

He then moved his rook to b8 as Mimoko moved her bishop to b5. However, he then made a mistake and moved his pawn to a6. This allowed Mimoko to capture the knight on c6 with her bishop, forcing Hyde to capture said bishop with hi king. Mimoko then moved her pawn to c4 while Hyde moved his bishop to f5, threatening Mimoko's rook. Mimoko simply slid her rook to a1 as Hyde fumed and slammed his bishop down on c2. Much to his dismay, Mimoko didn't take the bait and moved her queen to c1, prompting him to move his bishop to a4.

"You certainly do embody the role of Mr. Hyde," Mimoko mumbled as she captured the pawn at d5 with her c-pawn.

"It's DR. Hyde!" Hyde fumed as he slammed his king down on d7.

Mimoko simply sighed and castled on the king's side as Hyde moved his king to c8. "Seems you've fallen into my trap," she smirked as she moved her knight to b3.

Hyde's eyes went bloodshot as he violently captured the knight at c7 with his queen, sending the piece flying. "I AM NOT TRAPPED I-"

"No, that was the best move you could have made, however, you are still losing," Mimoko stated as she captured the queen at c7 with her bishop.

"NO! YOU GOADED ME INTO THAT!" Hyde fumed as he captured the knight at b3 with his bishop.

"No, you're the one that made the mistake of putting your queen in that situation," Mimoko sighed as she captured the pawn at c5 with her queen.

Hyde let out a frustrated roar as he slammed his knight down on d7, causing Mimoko to let out a sigh as she moved her queen to a5. Hyde then grinned maniacally and moved his pawn to b6, but Mimoko wasn't phased in the slightest and moved her queen to c3.

"RAUGH! SHOW SOME FEAR!" Hyde fumed as he violently captured the pawn at d5 with his bishop, sending the piece flying.

Mimoko caught it, and gently set it down before capturing the pawn at b6 with her bishop. "You should control your temper and treat the pieces with care. Oh, and mate in 4," she glared.

"LIKE HELL IT IS! YOU CAN'T PROVOKE ME ANY LONGER!" Hyde fumed as he slammed his bishop down on c4. However, as soon as Mimoko captured said bishop with her queen, he began to go pale. "No... NO! I CAN'T LOSE! he shouted as he slammed his knight down on c5.

"So you've finally realized it. Too little too late though," Mimoko glared as she captured said knight with her queen, forcing Hyde's king to d7. "Sorry Dr. Hyde, but it seems you will be losing this game," she stated as she moved her queen to d5.

"NO! DAMN the London system!" Hyde wailed as he slammed his king down on e8.

"Was that the root of your rage? Well no matter, checkmate," Mimoko sighed as she moved her queen to c6, winning the game.

As the board vanished, Hyde began sprinting towards the Thames before diving in and swimming in it. "DAMN YOU! I WON'T DIE, I'LL SWIM THE WHOLE DAMN THING!" he shouted as he began rapidly swimming away.
