Chapter 108:
En Passant Grandmaster
Iori confidently stepped forward as Phantom summoned a chessboard. Both Iori and Mimoko noticed something, but decided to keep quiet. "Alright, if that's how it's gonna be, then I'll just humiliate you so much you'll want to die," Iori thought as she sat down at the chessboard.
Iori began the game by moving her pawn to e4, while Phantom moved his pawn to e5. "Pretty standard so far. I could go for a bongcloud, but I'm honestly not feeling it. Especially since something's off," Iori thought as she moved her knight to f3.
As soon as Phantom moved his knight to c6 though, Iori got an idea. "If I can get 4 knights, I can wreck this guy. Let's see if he obliges," she thought as she moved her knight to c3.
Sure enough, Phantom moved his knight to f6, causing a malicious smirk to appear on Iori's face. "Why do you smirk? This is but a dead heat," he glared.
"Nah, you just fucked up. Happy Halloween, motherfucker!" Iori maniacally laughed as she captured the pawn at e5 with her knight.
"What rubbish, and why did you say 'Happy Halloween'?" Phantom glared as he captured the knight at e5 with his knight.
"Cuz it's the Halloween gambit, ba-ka!" Iori taunted as she gave Phantom the middle finger and moved her pawn to d4.
The move forced Phantom to move his knight to c6, however, Iori simply advanced her pawn to d5, sending said knight back to e5, but it wouldn't be there for long as Iori moved her pawn to f4, once again prompting Phantom to move the knight, this time to g6. Yet that wasn't the end, as Iori moved her pawn to e5, threatening Phantom's other knight. This time, however, Phantom elected to move his queen to e7, creating an absolute pin and preventing Iori from capturing his knight.
"Well aren't you smart, you just fucked up!" Iori thought as she moved her queen to e2.
"I see, so she intends to try and win back her knight through the queen exchange, well it won't happen, though she certainly made a mess of the board," Phantom thought as he moved his knight to g8.
"LOL, dumbass just fucked up! Iori shouted as she moved her pawn to d6.
Phantom unamusingly shook his head and simply captured said pawn with his c-pawn. However, despite that being Phantom's best possible move, he was about to be thrown into a sinking pit as Ipri moved her knight to d5.
"Damn you. I'm not going to lose my queen, check!" Phantom glared as he moved his queen to h4.
"Lol, what a dumbass, back ya go!" Iori snickered as she moved her pawn to g3.
"I am growing ever the more annoyed with your pawn pushing and arrogance," Phantom snarled as he moved his queen back to e7. "WAIT NO-"
"Lol, you just hung your queen. Guess maybe it's hard to see the board well out of the beak mask of yours," Iori snickered as she captured the queen on e7 with her knight.
In a fit of rage, Phantom immediately captured said knight with his king, allowing Iori to put him in double check by capturing the pawn at d6 with her e-pawn.
"Well aren't you smart. What's your rating again, Mr. Double check?" Iori taunted as Phantom moved his king to d8.
Now with all the momentum on her side, Iori moved her queen to d3 as Phantom moved his knight to f6. She then moved her pawn to b3, while Phantom responded by moving his pawn to b6. Her next plan of attack was moving her bishop to g2, forcing Phantom to move his rook to b8.
"All this game, I've been kicked around by this girl," Phantom thought as Iori moved her bishop to a3. "Well now, I make the threats!" he thought as he slammed his bishop down on b7.
"Lol thanks for the trade, dumbass," Iori snickered as she captured said bishop with her bishop and watched Phantom capture her bishop with his rook. "Now watch closely. Imma bout to do some magic!" she gloated as she castled on the queen's side.
"Damn you, and damn that foul gambit!" Phantom roared as he slammed his king down on b8.
"Lol, seems ya realized you're screwed, check," Iori snickered as she moved her queen to c4, forcing Phantom's king to b8.
She then moved her h-rook to e1 as Phantom moved his pawn to a5.
"He trying to threaten my queen? He a noob or something?" Iori thought as she moved her bishop to b2.
Just as she predicted, Phantom moved his pawn to b5 in an attempt to threaten her queen. However, Iori simply slid her queen to c5, causing Phantom to let out a frustrated roar and slam his knight down on e5.
"Lol, why didn't ya tell me we were playing hangman instead of chess?" Iori snickered as she captured the knight at e5 with her queen.
At this point, Phantom's frustration had reached its peak, and he had begun abandoning logical thinking, starting with him moving his rook to g8.
"Lol, hope ya like swimming, cuz you're joining your bootleg Edgar Allen Poe buddy in the watery graveyard," Iori snickered as she moved her bishop to d4.
Phantom merely let out a frustrated roar and slammed his pawn down on h5.
"Lol, looks like we got another piece hanging. This time... Your king!" Iori laughed as she slammed her queen down on e8, forcing Phantom to capture it with his knight. However, that did nothing to help him as Iori simply captured said knight with her rook, winning the game.
"Checkmate! Guess shavin' all my hair off boosted my luck stats through the roof!" Iori snickered as she smacked her bald head.
The board vanished and Phantom began walking away. "So were you makin' all those blunders cuz you knew you had nothing to lose?" Iori glared.
Phantom stopped and turned around. "So you saw through my trick. Well inadvertently, you've shown your hand. Seems Tsar Grigori was right to warn us about you. You truly are a chaos factor," he glared before vanishing into the fog.
"Wow! Incredible! Fantastic! You beat him good!" Carol gushed as she hugged Iori.
"I wonder what his rating was anyway," Iori shrugged as she pulled up her WWCF card. However, when she went to look at the match data, there was an error. The move log was intact, however, her opponent's name was displayed as "[Error not found]".
"Wait... Was that guy really a ghost!?" Iori nervously shouted.
