Chapter 143:
En Passant Grandmaster
"Tch, I shouldn't be surprised," Wiley snarled as he began walking towards Clifford.
"Nah, he's not the Desperado. The Desperado is the one who back when we first came to New York, stealthily implemented a death penalty on Imelda if she were to lose, and is also the one who stayed to watch my match against Katie and got the pleasure of having Mimo-chan's massive melons, which were hiding a DESPER key, smushed into her head. I'm talking about YOU, Sandy Shores!"
Wiley trembled with fury as he zeroed in on Sandy. "You... YOU WERE A DESPERADO!?"
"N- NO! This is a set-up! That woman is framing me!"
"Please, we both know that's bullshit, especially since you can easily check to see who the DESPER is registered with," Iori snickered.
"But I don't- KYAA!?"
Sandy recoiled in shock as Iori suddenly shoved her hand into her cleavage.
"Hmm, not there... Guess we'll strip ya down."
"The FUCK!?"
Before Sandy could react, she found herself stripped naked.
"Hmm, couldn't find anything... That's weird."
"IT'S NOT WEIRD! YOU BITCH! I'LL SUE YOU FOR THIS!" Sandy fumed as she covered herself up in embarrassment.
"OH SHIT... PSYCH! I found it already," Iori snickered as she pulled a DESPER out of the pocket of Sandy's shorts.
"Impossible! I left the DESPER in America, why is it here!?" Sandy thought as she struggled to form a response. "Th- That's clearly yours! Y- You planted it-"
"Nah, see DESPER keys forcibly summon your DESPER even if you don't have it on you. Mr. Boomer, the honors," Iori snickered as she handed Wiley the DESPER.
Everyone crowded around Wiley as he pulled out his WWCF card and scanned the device with it. Daria also did the same and after the two compared data, they turned to face Sandy.
"You really caused a heap of trouble. I hope you realize what this means," Daria glared.
Sandy began to panic and attempted to teleport away on the spot, however, she was stunned by someone slamming a cane into the back of her head and fell to the ground, unconscious.
"So it seems we'll need to do some extensive screening," Raymond grumbled as he stared down at Sandy.
"Mr. President, you got here faster than expected," Daria nodded.
"Well, my schedule was clear. Now Miss Ishikiridokoro, you've certainly become quite the schemer. Seems I was right to entrust you with those keys, you used them well. However, I only detected the use of 6 of the 7 keys. Wherever could that last one be?"
"You want it back? Sorry I kinda lost it," Iori smirked.
"We both know that's a lie... Very well. Moving on to new business, I hear SPCM Sheila Frisch wishes to retire."
"Yeah, I never wanna see a chessboard ever again," Sheila glared.
"A shame, but you don't exactly have talent like your grandfather so it won't exactly be a big loss."
"The way you framed that pisses me off, but it still ain't gonna make me reconsider."
"Very well, but the withdrawal process will not be immediate. Therefore, you will still continue your SPCM duties until then."
"And what about Sandy?"
"She'll be replaced by her AI much like Michiko and all the SPCMs that were killed via DESPERs... Perhaps there is a compromise. Since all SPCMs have AI made to mimic them in the event that they can't perform their duty, or unfortunately pass away, you too have an AI made to mimic you. Perhaps, you could simply manage the cafe physically and have the AI act as your proxy. It's not as though you have anywhere else to go, and you'd still receive all the benefits of the SPCM profession. All you'd need is direct approval from your respective maestro."
Sheila thought for a moment before sighing and asking Wiley if that was permissible. Due to the effects of the DESPER, Wiley had no choice but to approve the proposition, even though he didn't want to.
"You've given her free reign now. Damn you," Wiley glared at Iori as he huffed away.
"You might have saved me, but I'll never accept someone like you, Mimoko, or Carol," Sheila growled as she too began to leave.
"What about Oki-kun?" Iori snickered.
Nearly every American SPCM shot Iori a death glare.
"Okisato? Like the blank face guy that turns into a laughing madman? Fuck that guy! He used me just to farm achievement badges!" Mariano fumed.
"He used me to get a smothered mate!" Sheila fumed.
"He beat me with a Meadow Hay!" Sherbert cried.
"I got Bongclouded. And come to think of it, he beat Imelda so badly her whole place was filled with smoke for days, and Sandy- I actually don't remember, but I think she said he beat her with a weird bishop mate... AH, a doubly disambiguated bishop checkmate!" Katie cried.
"Well that's Oki-kun for ya," Iori grinned as everyone headed out.
As Raymond restrained Sandy and began dragging her with him, he once again turned to face Iori. "You did well against Pewler. Perhaps I'll add a new epilogue to Glasstone."
"Huh? Like a fanfic type thing?"
"No, I am the original author. The name I published it under was merely a pen name. As for why I wrote such a book, it was due to Pewler himself. I wanted to restrain him to the confines of that dystopia, so I wrote something that would appeal to his ego. And it worked like a charm. His hubris blinded him and the DESPER only further emboldened him, yet he failed to account for sadistic wrath. The sadistic wrath of Sadism herself. I imagine many will criticize the revision, but I also think many would love to canonize Kon Iving screaming in terror as the one person he overlooked brutally murders him and hurls his corpse into the Grand Canyon. Yes, that will work nicely. I expect big things from you, Iori Ishikiridokoro."
After that, Raymond left with Sandy in tow.
"Iori-chan, how good are you truly at chess?" Mimoko asked.
"Probably top level."
"Is that the truth?"
"Yeah, but unlike you I'm gonna have to work my way up."
"I never asked for the grandmaster title to be handed to me, but it was."
"Though with your tournament results, you easily would have gotten the norms anyway, and play at the level of your rating," Daria stated.
"I guess that's fair. Though I wonder if Iori will surpass me."
"Not sure actually. If you get good, I might have to play more normally and I hate doing that. I like winning with Bongcouds and other uncanny openings and gambits," Iori mused.
"You really are a sadistic woman," Carol smiled as she patted Iori on the back.
Iori smiled as she turned to face Mimoko and Carol. "Having friends like you two really does help keep my inner sadism at bay."
"What do you mean, you're mondo sadistic 24/7," Carol teased.
"Maybe before, but now, I'm only sadistic when I need to save the day. Heh, guess that makes me an antihero."
"Well it's certainly more villain than hero, considering no hero would force me to shave all my hair off for clout," Mimoko glared.
"But it grew back," Iori smirked.
"Only because some Desperados waded into our path."
Carol began to frown. "Do you think the Desperados will try a stunt like that again?"
Both Mimoko and Iori somberly nodded their heads.
"Figured, it's an efficient way to kidnap someone and ensure victory unless the victim is skilled and knows to request they be returned to where they were before the match."
"Well, regarding the second point, Okaa-chan already sent word to the WWCF and apparently they're going to send out a PSA on the matter," Mimoko stated.
"Well that's good."
"If you're worried about yourself, don't worry. Okaa-chan said she'll make you an SPCM, so you'll be under WWCF protection."
"Thanks for that."
"No worries, there sadly are a few unfortunate vacancies, but regardless if there weren't, Okaa-chan would have definitely had Michiko replaced, so don't feel too guilty about becoming an SPCM."
Carol smiled as she turned to face Mimoko. "You really are a saint. Oh, and since Iori's alive, that means hands off her man."
"Hands off her huh?"
"OH FUCK! Oki-kun's still stuck in London!" Iori cried.
"Ugh, he'll be fine. If you want to talk about sadistic, he's a textbook definition of a sadist."
Iori nodded in agreement as Carol stared in confusion, out of the loop as to how sadistic Okisato could be.
