Chapter 7:

Screams in the Dark

The Sorrowful Jedi

Angry yells could be heart from the forest. Also the sounds of a lightsaber cutting trunks, and branches. Though the sprinkling of rain had stopped, you could always seem to hear the dripping of water. Occasionally a cold drop would fall on me. I had the hood down. It was nice. I was already cold despite the slight humidity, and the sun was still up. I could sense Tonnis’s swirling emotions from where he retired. I sat cross legged on a cool rock. I hoped it ground me. I let my mind wander into the force. First there was fire. Then there was a cave. Not the small  indent on the cliffside I’ve seen earlier. A proper cave system was here. Right underneath our feet. The entrance was close. Some would can that luck. I called it what the force designed. I was heading down the cave. It was dark. Darker. Then I saw twin suns. Two. Two bathed in the light. One in dark. Then change. Balance. Then change again. The scales kept tipping. Due to fear, joy, anger, and hope. Then tipped the scale over, and over. Yet both the Sith, and Jedi were so blind to true power. True balance. I could see it. My people were blind too. My thoughts, and emotions startle me out of my trance.

“Are you alright?” Melra asks.

“I- no.” I say. Tears fall. “They thought us to always stay calm. In check. To be- to never let negative emotions burden, or blind us. What if they were blind too. To the danger creeping in. They thought staying hidden would keep them safe!” Visions of a mask comes to mind. Fear, so much fear. My own. I push it away. “I’m sorry. Forgive me. I’m not myself.” Melra takes my arm.

“Everyone has doubts. You know that.” They had us vanquish our doubt, but she was right. Even the most devoted to the light had doubts. Had fears.

“I’m going to sleep.” I say.

“Alright.” Melra says. “I’ll keep watch.” She sits crosslegged on the same rock I was on. She doesn’t meditate. Instead, she entertains herself by twirling her light saber handle in the air using the force, and then having it fall back down into her hand. I chuckle.
