Chapter 167:
En Passant Grandmaster
At the dock, Scharlachrot scowled as she noticed Tsar Grigori, Svetlana, and a malnourished young man with a sack over his head walking towards her.
"Oi, no trespassing. You want entry, you present proper visas.
"Are you the commander of the fairies and Britain? It's an honor to meet you. I'm Tsar Grigori Ivan Vasilyevich I of Russia," Grigori sneered.
"I'm aware of who you are, and no, you won't be getting special entry. Visa or it's back to Moscow."
"Then you'll simply give me one since you're this country's leader after all."
"Um no. I'm also the second in command, not the prime minister."
"On paper that is. You think an idiot like Heather could manage a country and army?"
"She isn't an idiot. You should know, considering she beat Svetlana before."
Svetlana gritted her teeth in anger and slammed her sledgehammer down on the ground. "That was not a normal chess game."
"Gothic chess is most certainly a proper chess variant, and one of the few variants with fairy chess pieces the WWCF will somewhat acknowledge. But as you know, that will change once we achieve our goals. Not to mention, Heathy's gifted at normal chess too. She's our queen that will crush all who stand in our way! So get out if you don't want me calling her."
"In that case, how about I tell your league just who exactly you really are."
Scharlachrot went pale as flashbacks to her conversation with Pewler played in her mind.
...
"I know exactly who you are. You see, a little informant told me about your past. And if you don't want me to reveal it, you'll do as I request," Pewler sneered.
"And why would I believe you? Politicians lie about having dirt on others all the time," Scharlachrot glared.
To scharlachrot's horror, Pewler perfectly detailed the past she hoped none would ever learn about her. And with no other choice, she agreed to his plan.
...
"What do you wish of me?" Scharlachrot trembled.
"I just want to let my comrade here run wild. You see, he's been cooped up for a while and wanted to get some fresh air, and kill a certain friend of the oni-tiger," Grigori sneered as he yanked the sack off the head of the malnourished young man.
As the three walked past Scharlachrot scot-free, she clenched her fist
...
"And shortly after those three left, you arrived," Scharlachrot stated.
Okisato scowled as he digested all the information. But what did stand out to him was that seemingly, Red Reaper had yet to kill everyone. One reason was thanks in part to Heather beating some members of the chess club, sending them to the prison area which was heavily guarded by Fairy grunts.
"While normally I wouldn't do this, I'll make an exception and order all grunts to ignore you so long as you take out Red Reaper. I don't know where he is, but he definitely came here on that warship. And while I'm on the topic, it seems the WWCF has decided to open secret puzzle cafes in nations without maestros."
Okisato stopped, demanding to know more. Scharlachrot explained that she brought this up simply as a courtesy since there was seemingly a secret puzzle cafe now present in London, and that some grunts had reportedly seen Red Reaper heading towards it.
Okisato took the que and headed for the location the cafe was seemingly located; a large fancy hotel. The hotel had once hosted many prestigious chess tournaments, but after the Fairy league took over Britain, they put a stop to that, mandating that only tournaments featuring chess variants with fairy chess pieces be permitted.
The state of things made Okisato curious as to who the SPCM, or rather DSPCM in this case could be as the Fairy league would no doubt take any and all WWCF employees hostage. He got his answer as he walked through the entrance hidden behind a fountain and was greeted by a green robot with a LCD face.
"Greetings, I am Robuddy. A deputy secret puzzle cafe manager, or DSPCM for short. Would you care to attempt the daily puzzle?”
"No thanks, but I would like to know if you saw Red Reaper."
"Red Reaper... Kaiser of the German empire of Prussia, yes?"
"That's right."
"Unfortunately, you seem to have just missed him. He warped here and left just 5 minutes prior."
Okisato thanked Robuddy and promised he’d challenge him eventually before running off. Red Reaper was definitely back in London, but the question was where. While Azenira, Yuusuke, and Rodeo had lost to Heather and were confined in the safety of the Fairy league's prison area, the others were still out and about, meaning any one of them could be confronted by Red Reaper.
...
In another part of the city, Yuzuha froze as she found herself face-to-face with Red Reaper.
"So you are to be my next pray, fräulein," Red Reaper sneered as he prepared to activate his DESPER.
Suddenly, a figure jumped out, shielding Yuzuha. "Ha, ha, ha, ha! Seems Zenihara-san is in need of my genius intellect," Numakawa gloated as he proudly stared down Red Reaper.
"Very well, I'll kill you first, and quickly," Red Reaper glared as he activated his DESPER.
