Chapter 9:

This Sister is Beyond Annoying.

I Know You Can't Write!

I tried convincing her a bit more but in the end she decided to sleep on it. I suppose that’s fair, writing a novel is a big commitment… But it’ll get you so much further than friends or anything useless like that!

Akimoto might be that ticket I’ve been looking for… I’ll finally become a famous author and prove my sister, mom, and Fujioka wrong!

For now though… homework.

“Hey! What’re you doing! Do you use your brain!? You know one is jungle, you know one is A-main, so you choose to sit by default and get pinned! You’re an idiot! Pathetic!”

My eyes flutter open—my bedroom is completely dark except for white light coming from my PC.

From where I’m lying I can see the silhouette of someone sitting at my desk against the light from the monitor. They have dark colored hair put up in a ponytail, a small frame, and a headset with cat ears.

This of course, is my younger sister Sayuri.

I fumbled around on my nightstand for my glasses and cellphone. When I finally found both I saw the time was five in the morning.

“Hey, Sayuri.”

“What.”

“I know I told you it’s alright to use my computer… but not at five in the morning before school!”

“You never specified that…”

Sayuri refused to break her eyes away from the screen.

“Well I’m making a new rule that says you can’t.”

The screen flashes red and her character hit the ground. Following shortly after, her fist slammed into the keyboard multiple times.

“This guy plays like such a monkey! He has no idea what he’s doing!”

“Sayuri… leave my room.”

“I’m sorry I just got a little loud this morning… I’m usually quiet and you don’t notice a thing.”

“What!?”

“Oops~”

“How often do you use my computer in the mornings…?”

“Oh not much, not much. I just misspoke.”

I got up and snatched the mouse from her hand. This finally got her to look at me instead of the game.

“Let me see your recent play time.” I tried to sound as cold and distant as I could. I’m sorry, Sayuri, your brother doesn’t want to have to do this.

She looks up at me with sulky eyes. Hey! Making a cute expression won’t get you out of this!

We stared each other down for a few more silent seconds until she finally gave in.

She opened her Mist account and went under the game “Offensive Strike 2”.

Time Played in the Last Two Weeks: 140.8 hours

I could feel my jaw hit the floor.

“H-hey… don’t give me that stupid expression. You spend just as much time reading your weirdo novels and anime.”

“You have no right to insult peak fiction!” I pumped my fist in the air.

“Oh yeah? I know what kind of books you read. If they don’t have panty-shots every five pages you drop it. It’s like dangling keys in front of a weird perverted baby.”

“I’m sorry… I didn’t want to have to do this…”

“Do… what?”

“If you continue to use my computer in the morning I’ll tell mom about all the money you spend on Offensive Strike 2.

“Eh—”

A critical hit.

It was something I found out by accident, actually. I was going through our shared Mist account and I happened to check the inventory. In there I saw pages upon pages of items that were listed for up to five-hundred seventy thousand yen!

I never dug further into it, or asked her how she got the money. But one thing is for sure, I don’t think it was legitimate means.

Sayuri’s cheeks were red.

“Fine… you leave me no choice.”

She quickly opened up Moogle, and went through two sign in pages. W-wait, what is she doing in my Moogle Drive!? She knows the passwords! Hold on— Hold on! Stop!

I attempted to dive for the mouse… but I was too slow…
