Chapter 186:
En Passant Grandmaster
Rize stared at the board and smirked. "'Fried fox' huh, done that before, but never on a chessboard," she chuckled as she moved her knight to c3.
"Oh, and how's it taste?" Okisato asked as he moved his pawn to e6.
"All depends on the batter," Rize nodded as she moved her pawn to d5.
"Maybe I will try it then," Okisato nodded as he moved his bishop to d6.
While it was all smiles at the board, it was the opposite in the peanut gallery with Mimoko winning the prize for most disappointed scowl.
"Utami-chan, make sure to make time in your schedule tomorrow," Mimoko glared as Rize moved her knight to b5.
"My schedule is always made to accommodate you," Utami smiled as Okisato moved his knight to e7.
"Good, then make sure to be prepared to drag Tanabe-kun to the school for practice bright and early. I'm going to instill PROPER opening theory into his brain," Mimoko snarled as Rize moved her pawn to c3.
"Huh? Thought ya said it was ok to loosen up- ULP!" Iori groaned.
"Yes, but the Fried fox defense is no way to win against an opponent like Muya-chan," Mimoko countered as Okisato moved his rook to f8.
"True, he wouldn't be winning against me with that," Peter stated as Rize moved her bishop to e3. "However, this Rize's an unknown, and doesn't know just who she's playing," he grinned as Okisato moved his knight to a6.
"Wow, sound like ya got a fan club," Rize grinned as she moved her queen to f3.
"You think those remarks were praises? Inoue-senpai's probably going to kill me if I lose," Okisato snickered as he moved his king to g8.
"Wow, a manual castle. But here's an easy way, and sorry, but I ain't going easy on ya," Rize smirked as she castled on the queen's side.
"Never asked you to," Okisato smirked as he moved his bishop to c5.
Rize decided trading was best, and captured the bishop at c5 with her bishop. Okisato naturally captured said bishop with his knight, prompting Rize to lunge her pawn to b4. Okisato naturally saw that and moved his knight to a4, prompting Rize to shift focus elsewhere and capture the pawn at e6 with her d-pawn.
However, it was at that moment that Okisato and Peter both began grinning maniacally, causing Mimoko to go into a cold sweat. "No way, he's winning now!?" she gasped as Okisato moved his pawn to a6.
Rather than defend the knight, Rize opted for counterplay, by capturing the pawn at d7 with her e-pawn, forcing Okisato to capture said pawn with his bishop.
"Not bad. Might be the toughest opponent I've faced ever, but that ain't mean you're winning. Check," Rize grinned as she moved her bishop to c4.
"Hoh? And how many lines can you see?" Okisato snickered as he moved his king to h8.
"The one that brings me victory!" Rize declared as she moved her bishop to e6.
Okisato smirked and moved his knight to b6, not putting much stock in Rize's claim. Rize didn't let up though and moved her knight to d4, forcing Okisato to move his pawn to a5 in order to retain his slight edge. Rize then moved her queen to g4, prompting Okisato to move his pawn to f5. Rize promptly captured said pawn with her e-pawn, but then Okisato made the seemingly headscratching move of moving his e-knight to d5.
"Wow, ya giving up already?" Rize snickered as she captured the bishop at d7 with her bishop.
"Not at all," Okisato replied as he captured said bishop with his queen.
"Sure looks like it to me," Rize smirked as she moved her knight to e6.
Okisato merely shrugged and moved his queen to f7. However, this move caused Rize to make a mistake and move her queen to f3, allowing Okisato to push his pawn to c6. However, Rize naturally didn't see it, and thought she had the edge, especially after capturing the rook at f8 with her knight. Even though said knight was swiftly captured by Okisato's queen, it was all grins from Rize.
"So now how ya gonna win down a rook?" Rize snickered as she moved her rook to d2.
"I'm already winning," Okisato maniacally grinned as he captured the pawn at b4 with his a-pawn.
"Huh, finally decided to go capture crazy. Well I'm up, so trade away and I get more," Rize shrugged as she captured the pawn at b4 with her c-pawn.
"Then how about you give up that rook," Okisato snickered as he moved his knight to c4.
"Not for sale," Rize replied as she slid her rook to c2, unknowingly worsening her position.
Okisato immediately pounced and moved his queen to f6, but Rize caught on and moved her queen to b3. However, Okisato knew exactly what he was doing and moved his knight to a3, prompting Rize to move her rook to b2.
"Now time to check YOU!" Okisato snickered as he moved his queen to g5.
It was then that Rize began to sweat a bit and make yet another mistake by moving her pawn to f4, dooming it to be captured by Okisato's queen.
"Ugh, should have done this first," Rize groaned as she moved her rook to d2.
"Too late," Okisato snickered as he moved his queen to e5.
Sensing the oncoming onslaught, Rize let out a heavy sigh and moved her queen to b2. And it truly was a merciless onslaught beginning with a check via Okisato moving his queen to e1, forcing Rize to move her rook to d1. Okisato then maneuvered his queen to e3, prompting Rize to defend by moving her queen to d2. This prompted him to move his queen to e4, giving Rize the chance for counterplay by moving her queen to d3. But the onslaught quickly resumed with queen to f4, check, prompting rook d2.
Now it was time for another piece to enter the fray, as Okisato captured the pawn at b4 with his knight, sending the queen to b3. This allowed Okisato to move his queen to f1, and force rook d1. He then captured the pawn at g2 with his queen, prompting Rize to once again fight back by moving her rook to d2. However, Okisato was a step ahead and moved his queen back to f1, once again forcing rook d1. He then moved his queen down to f2, once again prompting Rize to move her rook to d2, but that would ultimately be a fatal mistake as it allowed Okisato to move his queen to e1. And then, Rize sealed her fate by moving her rook to d1 instead of her queen.
"And now it's over. You lose," Okisato declared as he captured the pawn at a2 with his knight.
"Uh, excuse me? Game's still going," Rize glared as she moved her king to b2.
"So you're saying you don't see it? Guess you're overrated," Okisato snickered as he moved his queen to f2.
Rize scowled and moved her king to a1, but after Okisato moved his knight to c3, her face began to contort in frustration. "Ah fuck," she groaned as she moved her rook to d8.
"Wow, pretty weak line for a check. Then again, it was a suicidal check anyway," Okisato snickered as he captured the rook at d8 with his rook.
Rize finally decided to move her other knight, which had been sitting at g1 the entire game, to e2, making it fodder for Okisato's queen. The move did delay the checkmate though and allowed Rize to capture the knight at a3 with her queen. However, after Okisato moved his knight to b5, Rize hastened her demise by moving her queen to c5.
"Looks like Oki-kun's gonna win. So what batsu ya wanna do for losing the bet?" Iori asked Mimoko.
"None, because I never made any bets. In fact, I'm still going through with my plan of drilling opening theory into him," Mimoko glared as Okisato moved his rook to a8, forcing Rize's king to b1
"Lame. He's winning with a Fried fox, that deserves praise!" Iori countered as Okisato moved his queen to d2.
Ginji meanwhile began to scowl. "Damn oni-tiger ruining everything. Well, guess it was better I didn't activate my DESPER," he thought as Rize moved her rook to d1.
"Another questionable opening I'll have to add to my defense radar," Daria sighed as Okisato moved his knight to c3.
"Ugh, this is why I'm going to drill proper theory into him, because now I'll be stuck playing Fried foxes until Okaa-chan masters her counter for it," Mimoko groaned as Rize captured the knight at c3 with her queen.
"And good-bye queen!" Okisato snickered as he captured the queen at c3 with his queen.
"Ugh, and there goes the game... CHECK!" Rize shouted as she moved her rook to d8.
"Shouting it doesn't make it look any less desperate. Oh, and looks like I ended up coming out of this trade on top," Okisato snickered as he captured the rook at d8 with his rook.
"Well, never faced a madman like you before," Rize laughed as she moved her pawn to h4.
"And how was it?" Okisato asked as he moved his rook to d1.
"Fun. Look out at the next tournament, cuz I intend to blow off some steam there," Rize declared as she moved her king to a2.
"Looking forward to it. Checkmate," Okisato grinned as he moved his rook to a1, winning the game.
