Chapter 5:

Killing of cake

Sugar Rush before the Sweet Nightmares

I make my way back to the kitchen table. Samantha picked up all the gourds and placed them onto the coffee table in the living room. Even the one I threw at the squirrel.

I open the box to reveal our 6 inch cake. The cream colored frosting had some light grey spider frosting drawings on the top and sides. And it's hard to see but there is also some thin white lines for spider webs. The cake was a little squished on the side from the travel home but that's to be expected.

I cut into the cream cheese frosting and could smell the cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and clove spices tickle my nose. This is going to taste wonderful!

Samantha tries to take a sip of her hot chocolate. From her face it burns or tastes bad.

"You good?" I ask her.

"Yea. Still hot." She replies while she blows on it.

I slap a piece of cake onto her plate.

"Thank you." She says taking the slice.

"Hopefully you didn't burn all your taste buds so you can taste the cake." I tell her.

I slap a big piece onto my plate.

"I burnt just the tip of it. So I'm good." She smiles.

She tries some cake when I took a bite.

The cream cheese frosting texture has the perfect butter to cream cheese to powdered sugar ratio that it melts on the tongue. With enough vanilla to accent the spices.

The cake had the perfect moisture and spongy texture. The spices were the right kick to go with the mellow creamy frosting.

"Mmmm!" I exclaim coming back from my foodie moment.

Samantha already had half of her piece gone.

"It's good isn't it?" I ask her.

"Yea it tastes good." She replies eating some more. She is a simple girl with simple words. And if you haven't picked up yet. She really doesn't get out unless she is dragged outside. Yet this same girl will get a request to do a job then she is usually the first out the door.

I get a quarter of the way done with my piece and she has had hers gone for a minute while staring at the cake off and on.

She is funny when she debates with herself.

I cut the last piece in half and slap it onto her plate. She randomly gets a sweet tooth and it looks like today is that day.

This time she takes her time to enjoy it. I guess she was a bit hungry earlier.

The pumpkin latte was creamy also so it did end up pairing well with the cake.

Samantha gets up and takes care of her plate. Then takes her hot chocolate to her room to rest.

I slap the last piece on my plate and grab my book I bought. Then took my sweet sweet time eating, sipping on coffee and reading the rest of the afternoon while the fall breeze blew through the house.
