Chapter 6:
Tsurihito's Bride
I thought it was just the outside, but the inside didn't disappoint too. Forget about disappointment, it might even be better than the exterior. As our sensei knocked on the big entrance— which had a concrete shade in front that fitted all of our class— an old lady opened the door,
"Welcome to our hotel! We were waiting for you guys." She might be old but her voice was filled with energy, the energy of professionalism that is. I could guess that she was in this position for a long time. I don't remember much of my childhood, but I might have seen her in her job when I was little. I don't know for sure though.
The main common room in front was massive! At exactly the back of it was a reception area, with two stairs touching the left and right walls. There were two pool tables and two table tennis tables on two sides, and at the center of the room was a massive sofa set, enough to accommodate all of us. There were two rooms beside the central ones, the right side door was the dining hall and at the left was the shower areas.
The old lady walked us through, giving us a tour. The room was freezing cold because of the AC. It felt like a five star hotel.
"Gramps, can you tell me how the heck did sensei afford to pay for all this? I am pretty sure this place ain't cheap and our Uni won't give this much for a trip.", it was all of our questions altogether, Miko was the first to express it.
"You don't trust your sensei do you?" She laughed out loud. "Well, I think you are right. This place is expensive, and usually its filled with tourists. But look at it now-"
It was empty, there was none but us here. Sensei went out the hotel for something.
"This two weeks every year we don't get any visitors. We were lucky enough that your folks agreed to book at our hotel, even if it's for a cheaper price. Something is better than nothing."
Everyone was giving confused stares at each other, but I knew what she meant by that. It was that myth, the Tsurihito's Bride. I think I have told Airi-chan about the myth too.
The old lady sat down on her reception desk and stared through the crowd at me. "You, the young man over there-", she stared at me keenly, as if she was confirming something. "You are a local, aren't you? So you should know why."
"Yes, I know."
All the eyes were on me now. "What do you know?"
"It's just a rumour, don't pay any heed to it.", I shook it off.
"It's true. The rumour.", the old lady replied back. Her forehead creased. She looked at the other students. "If you guys are interested, I can share the story with you."
"Wait, but isn't it taboo to say that story?", I replied back on instinct.
"Oh, so you do believe it?"
She got me. "No- I was confused that you were this eager to share it with them."
"Anyways, I will give you the keys to your rooms now. The person I call should come here and take the keys. Those who are interested about the story, I will be waiting for them in the afternoon, an hour after lunch in the common area.
None of them seemed uninterested except for me. It's going to be a storytelling session now I guess. But I ain't going there.
I looked at Airi-chan. "Do you want to hear the story?"
"I want to be where you want to be." She side-eyed me.
After lunch, I stayed in my room for some time. Airi-chan was with me too. She sneaked into my room when everyone was distracted, and didn't want to go anywhere. She was being clingy, wrapping herself around my arm or when I lay down.
By this time all of them might've already gathered down at the common area. I shouldn't wait any longer otherwise it's going to be awkward.
"Let's go, Airi-chan."
We got ready and headed out.
"But you said you aren't interested in the rumour?"
I looked at her grey eyes. "You said 'that', remember? You want to be where I want to be?"
"Yes."
"Then come with me.", I gripped her hands and flew through the room outside.
