I don't usually read GL, but there's something out the way Steward writes that makes me forget that I don't read the genre and also I'm not really a big fan of obviously anime inspired works.
That being said I feel like all of the elements I don't like are balanced with really good characterisation where every single girl feels distinctive and an easily understood setting that means you don't have to get bogged down in remembering anything outside of character names.
I think this is a prime example of a novel that is inspired by anime, but not in the cringe way, I don't imagine anybody wearing an Akatsuki cloak when writing this.
If you love GL. Or even if you're down to you just like good characterisation, read this book.
