Ersatz

In 1972 Shenzheng China, Zhang Xiao Zhou and his wife, Liya, are professional painters. They are some of the best in all of China, but life is hard for artists, and to make ends meet, the duo finds themselves forging some of the world’s most famous paintings.

It’s a slow, dull life, and as tragedy strikes, they are forced to accept a dangerous job offer: they will forge Vincent Van Gogh’s long-lost masterpiece, and in doing so, entangle themselves with a foreign crime syndicate.

Through it all, Xiao Zhou and Liya rediscover what it means to be an artist, and at the same time, rekindle their love.
