When the political and military power was in the hands of the Empire, the country of Liljequist was virtually isolated from the rest of the world. A renaissance of theatres, teahouses, pubs, and courtesans grew even in the smallest of cities. But this more or less sophisticated world of urban pleasures was also taken over by the traditional love of nature, and artists thrived.

However, this story has nothing to do with the past, or what will happen in the future. It's a story about an ordinary painter whose only wish is unable to be fulfilled.
