Torii Shinoaki is a samurai of the Torii Clan, loyal retainers to the Tokugawa Clan during the Sengoku Period. Surrounded by such renowned and pure-hearted people, Shinoaki is left to do the dirty work, and regrets one battle that led him to kill a child in cold blood.

During the Siege of Fushimi Castle, weighed down by his sins, he flees the burning castle, unable to honourably give his life like his family. When discovered after the battle, he is forced to commit seppuku in order to atone, his name erased from Torii Clan records. Beheaded by a close friend, Shinoaki dies wondering whether he deserved to be a samurai.

Poor, alone and lost, Shinoaki is reincarnated in a fantastical new world as a young girl, something that he sees as punishment from Enma, God of the Afterlife. But, with a chance to start anew, can Shinoaki, now known as Cynthia Stormveil, overcome the sins of his past and the duty of the world he left behind and find new purpose?
