Synopsis

A failed experiment. An abandoned laboratory. A plan to save the world, at the cost of what makes us human.

Niko and Chloe grew up solving mysteries together. The cousins were a detective duo, always sticking their noses where they really weren’t supposed to—even so much as a rumor sent them hunting for the truth. But that was during grade school.

Now approaching the end of college, Niko finds himself longing for those days. His genetics thesis won’t write itself, and Chloe’s off starting a career in fashion design. When he hears of one more unsolved urban legend—an abandoned laboratory in the woods—he jumps at it. And that means dragging Chloe along with him, out of the city and through miles of a dense forest.

Neither of them expected to find anything in those woods. But curiosity drove them to search—and to find what they were never supposed to. What no one was ever supposed to.

Curiosity killed the cat.

Note from author

This novel is the sequel to Parallel in Two and the second story in the Half Saga. It’s designed with new readers in mind, though, so don’t worry about its prequel—you’re not obligated to read it.

It’s also a retelling of Han Hito: The Story of Patient Zero. That old story will be posted again at the conclusion of this novel, for those who are curious what the original book looked like. (It was bad.)

This is one of my favorite stories in the whole timeline, and I’m excited to finally put it on display! Hopefully it goes better than my first attempt.

And no, I’m not making an ARG for this one.
