Half Human [Patient Zero]

A failed experiment. An abandoned laboratory. A plan to save the world, at the cost of what makes us human.

Niko Thumis is a genetic sciences major. For all his life, he’s searched tirelessly for answers to indeterminate questions. What is the meaning of life? Is God real? What does it mean to be human? So when he hears rumors of a ruined facility deep in the forest, he’s ecstatic.

But the laboratory only raises more questions. How did it get there? Why was it abandoned? Niko, morbidly curious, decides he has to find out. What awaits him is a global-scale crisis, left undiscovered for years—and now he’s the only one who can keep it that way. Can he save humanity from his own mistake?

Curiosity killed the cat.

This is a novella re-telling of Han Hito: The Story of Patient Zero. Plot elements will be significantly changed from their original counterparts in order to facilitate a deeper exploration of the themes (and also to cut word count).

I saw the prompt for this monthly challenge and couldn’t stop myself. Imagine my surprise seeing the title of my own novel as the starting point for an idea. I knew what I was doing the moment I laid eyes on it.

This, as with everything, is still a work in progress. It is not intended in any way to halt the progression of Tetraprisma: Backtrack, though the challenge did come at an unfortunate time in that regard. Thank you for your patience. We’ll get back to printer colors soon.

Thanks to BlipXP for editing, and for believing in Half Human as a concept. With how poorly Han Hito was written, it’s hard to think anyone would still give it a chance. So, really, thanks. It means a lot.

Stand together,

Arufa
