Nine-year-old Anli always had a bit of a rebellious streak, finding new ways to get into trouble. One night, after a venture out of Colony 96, she stumbles across a strange meteorite. Accidentally cutting her hand on a jagged edge, she unknowingly grants passage to a sentient, parasitic entity from deep space where it slumbers inside her.

Now, fourteen years later, she lives on Earth's fourth and largest spaceship, Lagrange 4, but she begins to forget important people, places, and things. As the entity inside of her begins to stir, she's faced with a choice that will ultimately decide the fate of humanity. However, there remains a price to pay.

With the ensuing chaos, she enlists the help of her childhood friend, Blaire. As they return to Earth's surface, rumors of an elusive crystal with the power to change the world are unburied alongside a dark secret about Lagrange. Will Anli and Blaire find success, or will they succumb to the will of something not even human?
