Synopsis

A lone traveling Alchemist who established himself in a forest free of sovereignty haphazardly finds his way to a small village surrounded not only by that same forest, but also by the sea and a large mountain range.
Upon closer inspection, it seems like the people there are preparing for a celebration of some sort. For anybody not accustomed to old traditions from this continent it would certainly look quite unsettling, but to the older generation it is simply that, a tradition, in the form of a celebration they repeat every 10 years, at the same time of the year.

The end of a circle is approaching, fallen leaves are scattered on the ground and the air is silently but steadily turning colder by the day. To the people in town it is time to gather firewood and prepare for the many nights to come, but to those living in smaller, more rural villages, it is more about carving holes in pumpkins and lurking by your neighbor's doorstep weapon in hand.. Yes, this is Halloween.

Note from author

This is the side story to a main one I have yet to publish (soon to come), featuring one of its main characters. The main story's title is "Farewell Party", making it the Farewell Series.
I will publish the first chapter when I am done proofreading, that is to say in a month or so considering I am taking part in this contest for now.
I hope you'll enjoy this not so heartwarming first look at one of the key figures of the story.

Regardless of the quality of my writing/ideas, I hope this story and the next will be able to make you feel something, be it anger/joy/frustration/delight/curiosity, I simply wish it won't leave you indifferent.
