A Fly in the Hive is not for the feint of heart. It's dark, grotesque, and messed up, for all the right reasons. As such, this review will not contain spoilers as this is a story that is best enjoyed when you don't know what will happen next. This is a psychological thriller, set in a dystopian future, centering around characters, Ren and Kaede. Each have their dark pasts and are surrounded in mystery with the story revolving around their romance. It is honestly really tempting to delve into the finer details, but I feel readers truly need to experience the thrills of it themselves, rather than hear about it from me.
One area of leeway on this will be reserved for a certain antagonist. Without spoiling too much, I'll just say that the antagonist of the novel is quite messed up, but also well-written. In fact, the writing for the characters, and the writing as a whole, is easily this novel's biggest selling point. In a psychological thriller, you need the writing to be good, which can be harder than it sounds, but every chapter of this novel had me at the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen next. Even after the final chapter, I'm still craving more as there's much to still explore in the world of this novel. Thus, I can only heap praises upon this novel, and highly recommend you give it a read.
