Literally starting things off, I have to first comment on just how engaging the prologue for this was. It had me hooked the second I got to the end of it and made me super invested in reading more....
Elisa wished she could speak to the girl she was before the poison pierced her flesh.
Why, after years of preparation, she couldn’t go through with her destiny—to plunge a blade into the heart of her vampiric husband, Count Kael Blac’hil. Why she was the victim of the dagger instead.
She had plenty of motive! The unpunished crimes of his kind. The people of Highcliff, battered but unbroken. What his family did to Ma and Pa.
Five years of her life, memories—gone. The war between humans and demonkin silently rages on. But Kael is still here. Speaking to her like she’s more than the girl who conspired to kill him. Touching her like he has the right. And his eyes? Well. She only saw stars.
Her mind was still stuck at nineteen, when she was twenty-three. But somewhere in those lost years, something changed.
Elisa must unravel the truth before she loses herself again—because if she’s not careful, she might remember why she fell for her dog of a husband in the first place.
