Escape our rotten world, read this work of an unmatched cuteness!
This book gave me a pang in my heart when it ended. Why? Because I knew I read the last line, that there will be no more chapters I would be able to devour greedily just like I am doing write now with my speculoos.~
To these who only take a quick glance at the reviews, know that there's no reason for you to skip reading Haru's work. Mismatched Words in a Lonely World is a treasure of delicacy, of delightful silliness, and you shall embrace its reading!
More concretely, why is this book a masterpiece? "Pehh there are many romances out there anyway"; "Kys I don't read isekai". First, you kys uwu. While indeed a great number of isekai are the boring same-flat-plot-and-characters, never forget that a forest hides many trees. The great number of mid-isekais harms the potential of the genre, and you're playing their game if you don't give an isekai a chance ( there are insane ones ) until seeing to which kind of isekai it belongs. And Mismatched Words in a Lonely World is a good isekai, far from the scenario you may have imagined.
Then, this romance is outstanding. Before everything else, I have to praise the characters. Both main characters are touching and endearing. They have a delightful alchemy, making any of their interactions golden. Valeria and Caelum have their fears, their wounds, their own kind of loneliness. And even though there's an underlying melancholy, the antics of Valeria - our dear cinnamon roll - are making it impossible to read without smiling and giggling. Even what should be awkward becomes sweet if left in Haru's hands. The MCs have weighing backstories which only make them ( especially Val ) more endearing and lovable. They feel real.
The narration allows a soothing and cosy reading. Val-Cael interactions are perfectly used to fill moments that otherwise could easily be weak narration moments ( walking/insert any other simple actions ) and avoid any boring passage. Haru pours her heart into the prose, the descriptions. It can easily be felt.
The world-building may be a slightly weaker point. We don't learn many things about the Vanishing, considering the length of the novel which gave room to. That's not absent, though; let's say the minimum is there. Cael's language learning is missing some misunderstandings when we reach a certain advance point in the story, though these are elements that can be ( if wanted ) easily fixed.
Thus, this remains a novel that I fell in love with, and I wanted to thank Haru for writing this wonderful story. Thank you, Haru!
Now you're a finalist. I knew you deserved it. ;3
You're already the winner in my heart; prove it to HF and beyond!!
