The gods of Eseltrea have been banished, and the false goddess Regina and her Empyrean are poised to conquer the rest of Eseltrea. Asta once lived a normal life in the old world, before it fell to the hands of destruction and war - extinguishing the boy's life and disconnecting him from the mortal coil. Yet, death in this world was not to be his end. Reborn in the mythic land of Eseltrea as the bastard prince Iwen au Atrean, finds himself labelled as a "sigilite celestial" - a great hero from the otherworld. The Serian Empire, locked in a grinding war against the tyrannical Empyrean, has much need for heroes as Regina begins to tighten the Empyrean noose around all on Eseltrea. Seria believes that the new generation of "celestials" will lead them to victory. Yet the past does not stay buried. As the scars and old grudges from the old world come back into play, loyalty to Seria might not be as clean cut of an option for Asta.
