This novel manages to build up a solid plot, consistent themes, intriguing mysteries and, most importantly, a really likable cast of characters in a very short amount of time.
The protagonist’s growth, and her relationship with the past, in particular is a highlight of the novel. But her friends also have their own character arcs, and their relationships with each other always made for some very fun banter.
The only real criticisms I could muster have to do with the aforementioned short length of the novel, which was outside the author’s control. Some characters get over their issues a bit too quickly, or accept massive revelations without any time to process them. This makes some important conversations feel strange, as soon as one character explains themselves the person they’re speaking to instantly concedes. The main romance also feels underdeveloped in my opinion. However, this only had a small impact on my enjoyment, and “it’s too short” is a good problem to have.
All in all. Real banger, by a clearly proficient author. read it.
