After a reckless tanuki rescues a melancholic house-spirit from a brothel, the two travel towards Edo. The new capital is bustling with merchants, artists, elite warriors and criminals from all walks of life. Literally.

Dazzled by the delights and conveniences of the city, the inhabitants of Edo seem unaware that other beings lie waiting in the dark - or walk among them in disguise. Yuame and Kaoru might be able to pass as humans, but need to be just as vigilant, if not more. Especially in Asakusa, worshippers and sinners congregate en masse - and not only human ones. While monsters lurk in the shadows of the Sensoji temple, the oiran and other courtesans of nearby pleasure district Yoshiwara attract and entice all manner of clientele.

Most seek pleasure. Some seek the arts. All seek an escape. But once strange murders begin to occur, Yuame and Kaoru find themselves already in the clutches of the city, unable to leave it all behind like before…
