20 years ago, at the helm of a technological boom, society as a whole collapsed when an essay titled "The Truth" was released. The Truth within the writings sent a shockwave of violence across the world until there was nearly nothing left.

However, a group of survivors managed to seal the depths of Tokyo from the outside, and create a new society known as Aesthetica: a perfect world without pain and suffering. Using the drug coined "aesthetics", citizens forgot The Truth, and based on their mental fortitude, earned a citizenship rank by an AI implanted in their eyes.

Amidst an outside hacking attack, Roy Grainger, an aesthetics officer tasked with monitoring the fortitude and aesthetics levels of various citizens, finds his ideal world flipped upside down when he's assigned Ken Jitsuo. The teen, a genius hacker awaiting his rites to citizenship, pulls Roy into the less regulated side of Aesthetica, and seems hellbent on bringing him closer to The Truth.
