In this case I can only talk about myself, but I slowly got accustomed to the major characters in the story over the course of the chapters, but still had a few issues with the ones standing in the back rows - or more precisely to associate the characterization from the first chapter to them. I personally try to repeat important character traits or apperances a few times (but not as another full exposition. More like mentioning the hair color when stroking a strand back or something in the lines of that). Through repetition it gets harder to forget and flows nicer.
But that is just for the next novel, unless you still have enough time to rework this at the end.
Yeah, but Chunibyo is not just the anime "Love, Chunibyo, & Other Delusions". It also is a character archetype like Tsundere or Yandere. The anime surely made it popular, featuring a protagonist who thinks that she has special powers and is essentialy delusional about it. However, there are a whole lot other Animes that feature Chunibyo's. For example the ones I remember: The main character Okabe Rintarou in Steins;Gate has a few Chunibyo Phases with his evil laugh, a friend/schoolmate of the main character in Oregairu, a classmate in Komi can't communicate, the little sister from the protagonist in Haganai. Don't know if you have seen one of those, but "Love, Chunibyo, & Other Delusions" definitely features a Chunibyo as well, and its from KyoAni, so you can't do much wrong with that!
I actually haven't watched The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumi, but I kind of like Va, so I'll set it onto my list! 😁
