that of course is due to the fact that average reader is hardly an expert on nuclear weaponry... to simplify... its not really like saying shark and goldfish are the same but more like saying it was eaten by fishes... it makes no difference weather it was eaten by carps or goldfishes since it was ultimately eaten by fishes. If it was some sort of crime story, then i would acknowledge it, but since this is a science fiction...

I did say they (The Invaders/aliens) came to earth in spaceships didn't I? the number of spaceships was around 150. Around 100 of them went after North America and were destroyed... This was a general overview o the events. Focus of the prologue chapter was just that... to give a reader a short overview. There is no point in saying they launched ground to air missiles type xx, tactical thermonuclear variety, that made contact with the alien spaceships. EMP is a salvageable situation. Land is still fertile, there are little to no deaths and majority of preexisting infrastructure is salvageable... as far as I'm aware there was no national spread of radiation through any of the countries where nuclear weapons were used... and those weapons were not even designed to minimize the spread of radiation.

As far as I'm aware modern nuclear weapons maximize immediate destructive capabilities and minimize secondary effects like radiation. Furthermore the target for the attack was in the sky, limiting the spread of radiation to the North America. The global effects would be limited to a minor temperature increase and slightly accelerated icecaps melting. However, due to the emergence of new technologies that don't rely on fossil fuel, even that change would be minimal. Please take note that we are talking about an accidental destruction of an entire continent, not just a few cities, few nukes would hardly be enough to cause such devastation.
It didn't... I didn't want to go into too much details about it since South America wont be having any involvement in the future plot. South America was highly irradiated from the event. Most of citizens died from it, but fortunately (?) due to an alien virus and radiation their bodies changed enough for them to manage living in such a horrid environment. Due to their abominable appearance they do not involve themselves with other factions and live in seclusion. Considering the size of North America and the fact that their target was in the sky instead of on the ground thousands of nukes are perfectly believable number. Hope that explained some issues you have been having☺️
