It’s more to do with ‘I don’t even crack it during that day’ the phrasing is odd and not very common outside the UK (in that particular format). Given the dialogue reads UK and the rest reads elsewhere I found it odd. I think it may also be the present tense choice, crack open a window and ‘crack it’ are similar but different in their common usage.
Also I’m nitpicking this because I like everything else about the story.
Also, if you are satisfied with it then that’s also totally cool 😊it’s a great story.
