Wasn't too bad, but this site undid all the neat tabs and single-spaced lines I had in my Google Doc, so I had to do those all by hand. On the other hand, though, this site doing automatic formatting conversion on things like bold and italicized text is a lifesaver.

If you mean Sacomidzu, then the coat of arms of Satsuma well predates him, as well as the adoption of the motto. The motto comes from the Wisdom of Solomon (Ws 7:8), "I preferred [Wisdom] to kingdoms and thrones". All I can say (and all I have fleshed out) at the moment is that some Emperor of Satsuma admired King Solomon as a wise and philosophical ruler and sought to emulate him. The Republic, which was only founded after Satsuma was liberated from Japan during the Cold War, kept the motto because it was seen as still fitting Satsuma's ethos. During Sacomidzu's regime the country was nominally a constitutional monarchy.

Once again you've basically nailed it lol. I'm surprised anyone besides myself has been curious enough to actually check out the Nippo Jisho and the like, and in case it wasn't obvious the pronunciation of Satsuman largely follows the rules laid out there (adopting an alphabet with very few reforms over four centuries really helped petrify the phonology).

I'm writing a much longer exposition on the Satsuman language, and I'll be sure to let you know when it's done and where I'm sharing it (I still have a *lot* to figure out on the PR end of things...)
