Some feedback: think there's way too much telling and few showing. I feel like every sentence is some form of telling what happened, often a: I "insert action or feeling here".

For me I do it because the thoughts are in present tense, so the italics are to differentiate it and make it really seem like her thoughts in the moment.

Dang these magicians out here losing to hair cuts lmao. But on a more serious note, I'm not sure how to feel about the whole exposition dump as the first chapter. A lot of people have been doing it and I guess it's a fairly common fantasy trope, but I feel like it's best if it's short and concise.
