J.C. Chambers III

I write about heroic characters doing heroic things in intricate fantasy & science-fiction worlds. I believe that fictional worlds should inspire wonder, that action should be bombastic, and that romance should give you diabetes from the overwhelming sweetness.

I'm a life-long anime fan and long-time writer. I pull liberally from anime, video games, and my time growing up in Japan.

In addition to my work here, I've self-published on Amazon and had short fiction published with small presses.

Quick heads up: looks like you changed formatting on this chapter. Thought you might want to know.

In any case...

BOOKS! GLORIOUS BOOKS! WHERE OH WHERE DO YOU COME FROM?!

Always love a good chapter about reading and books and libraries.

Sara is cute. I like how Felix immediately goes to help her. He's such a bro.

Also, that's so crazy that she has entire books written about her! Who could be writing and publishing them, I wonder? Is Aela secretly working a side-hustle writing about her student?

"The Clingy Excited Guy" — Hey, that's me fr! 😅

In all seriousness, fun chapter. I like the supporting cast you're building.

It's nice to see a noble girl actually be nice to the main character, even if she seems to be a bit of a ditz haha.

Wow, this reminds me of—just kidding, I promise I won't just be making comparisons to other stuff as I read.

Fun chapter. Magical academies are always delightful.

Oh no, that monster was scary. Have you ever the old Justice League Unlimited cartoon? The episode "For the Man Who Has Everything," is so frigging heartbreaking.

Would you rather live in a perfect dream or an imperfect reality? Reminds me of Inception, huh?

In any case, great chapter.

I will accept the headcanon that Leo looks similar to Haaland.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Divinity 2 is brilliant, so this is truly high praise indeed.

Interesting. So did James turn into a monster too? Did all his friends turn into monsters?

Indeed. Go kick that King's ass.

I do wonder how long he was dead for though, with all that rust. What happened to the villagers in the meantime?

Dang... Poor guy. What horror have they done to him?

Again, really atmospheric stuff. Great delivery. The ballroom dream sequence was really cool.

Lots of mysteries set up here. Almost don't want to know the answer... Almost.

Really liked the description of the ship and the docks. Fascinating to learn about the barrier.

Also, Eilise is channeling her inner Frieren, haha.
