The reveal that the sire bond is a juvenile seeking out the adult who turned them was an interesting twist on the vampire lore.

And Lucy being in that stage makes the transformation feel much stranger than a normal vampire story.

Okay, Camazotz was definitely not where I expected this to go. That reveal explains a lot about why all the usual vampire weaknesses failed around Francesco.
And after all that fighting to stop the transformation, Lucy still became a vampire anyway.

Lucy’s spiral is getting very real now, and it feels like everything is slipping out of her control.

The fact that she just held out her arm for the injection without hesitation says a lot about how desperate things have become.

The sire-bond idea is getting more interesting the further this goes, especially with Lucy is the group’s supernatural tracker.
The moth scene was the moment where the transformation felt disturbing and real though—Ward admitting he was only “a little” lying about her still being herself hit hard.

Lucy being in the middle of turning into a vampire and arguing about archaeology made me like her immediately.
The documentary-style narration works really well and I see speilberg reference too

Honestly, I’m so happy we somehow ended up discussing everything from Teen Titans to Azula to Bulbous Cows along the way. 😂 The Azula comment especially made me realize just how many random things we’ve discovered we have in common.

Thank you for sticking with Sybill all the way to the end, and for leaving some of the best comments along the way. Your sense of humor always came through in them, and I genuinely looked forward to reading your reactions every time.

I never expected this experimental little competition story to receive this much love, and a huge part of that has been getting to share it with kind people like you. The fact that Sybill-speak started showing up in your comments was basically the final stamp of approval. 😂
