I finally listened to "Chromatic Hallucination" while rereading the story, and I finally understand why you recommended it.
I THOUGHT YOU WERE JUST RECOMMENDING A SONG YOU LIKED.
PAY ATTENTION TO THE ENGLISH LYRICS!!!
"If you were alive now, how many springs would have bloomed?"
HELLO!??
And then there's the part about repeating the foolish question and answer.
THE FOOLISH QUESTION.
THE APPLE.
CHITOSE ASKING WHAT MAKES A HUMAN A HUMAN.
I'M GOING INSANE.
I don't even know if you chose this song because it inspired the story, because it reminded you of the characters, or because you wanted readers to understand something they wouldn't notice until later. Maybe I'm overthinking it.
But the lyrics about telling stories in a world colored by fantasy, about a requiem, about freedom being beautiful and barren, about a hallucination without an audience...
HELL NO!!!
All these people who have lost someone, who are afraid of being alone, or who are trying to leave something behind for someone else.
AND THEN THE SONG RETURNS TO THE FOOLISH QUESTION.
I genuinely thought the recommendation was just a fun little bonus in the afterword. Now it feels like I was given another way to experience the story, and I didn't understand it until I went back.
Also, Sensei, if you deliberately chose this song because of the lyrics, I need you to know that I am staring at you through my screen right now.
I still have my Grimoire theory, by the way. I'm not sharing it yet.
But now I have a second theory: "The song recommendation is part of the reading experience, not just an afterword recommendation."
I hate how much sense that makes.
I'm going to listen to it again.
I might need to lie down first.
